Here are the top three forum etiquette reminders. Read through to keep this community running in good order. 1) Thou shall not post spoilers Seriously, though. In this world of fast paces and crazy schedules, please take a moment to respect other's wishes to not be spoiled 2) Thou shall generally follow the golden rule ...and not the one about having all the gold. Be nice. Chances are you're only 1 or 2 connections from your fellow posters here. 3) Stay out of Valhalla. Valhalla is where battle-killed posts go to die. Many posts, some threads, and a few odd folks end up there. Stay away... it's an icky place. For a longer discussion on forum rules (and staying out of Valhalla), visit here volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/20664/faq-posting-rules

For clarification, what constitutes a spoiler? I understand that we don't want results posted in the thread title, but when is it ok to put a result in the thread itself? When is it ok to post scores in a thread as the match is going?
Thank you

NCAA Championship match. 12/19/15. Omaha.
Penn State wins 6th national championship in 8 years with a 3-1 match win over USC. It was a great match with scores 25-22, 23-25, 30-28, 26-24. Could have gone either way. A match for the "ages".

When is it ok to post scores in a thread as the match is going? Thank you It is ALWAYS OK to post the result of the match in the thread about the match. People who don't want to know the score can stay away from the thread. Which is why it is not OK to post results from OTHER matches in a thread about a different match. Definitely don't do it while the match is on-going. I personally don't have a problem with results being posted after that match or those matches are concluded. I think if someone is that worried about finding a result, he/she should stay off of VT until they want to know or have watched the match. If you want people to know about a particularly exciting match, just post a link to that thread. We fully realize that the results of other matches impact other teams and that it's silly to restrict conversation about those matches. But do try to use common sense.

The idea is to make it so that someone can DVR a match while watching and commenting live on another. Frankly, a lot of exciting matches are on simultaneously, and thanks to our new digital age, a lot more are available. So if I want to watch PSU/Minnesota later and not get spoiled, I will avoid the PSU/Minnesota thread and probably any Big Ten threads, PSU threads or Minnesota threads because duh the result will probably be there.
However, I would assume that Michigan St./Purdue thread is safe from spoilers and be able to comment while that match is going on.

Sometimes though, there isn't a thread for every match. In the BYU/SCU thread, I discussed other WCC scores. I guess the spoiler alert is more for bigger games (big, pac, texas, UF, etc) , but I often don't mind when people post scores to other games in a different thread. It helps especially when i'm on my phone.

I think this spoiler discussion is mostly for top 25 matches and keeping scores out of thread titles. That part I agree with

Seems like if it's not on TV somewhere, it shouldn't matter?

Seems like if it's not on TV somewhere, it shouldn't matter? I think that the phrase is "If it's not on TV, it didn't happen."

i think that if you're trying to avoid the result of a particular match, then you're really at your own risk when you're on other match threads, where someone could post the progress or final result of the match you're specifically trying to avoid.
it just happens, usually unintentionally, that people will post/discuss a related match.

So based on that picture, it appears the Golden Rule is to Gator Chomp? Sounds right.
