There has been a lot of talk on here about 18's club teams this year, but not so much about 17's. I'm interested to see who you all think will be the best teams this year in all regions and which teams gained or lost new players.

Also in contention for gold are borinquen, pace bootlegger, and maybe rockstar. Did Trent Williams choose to stay on balboa or go to 949?

Trent Williams playing for 949 17's, along with Corey Taylor, Tyler Flood, and everyone from San Clemente 16s last year besides Matin Bikdeli (setter - Balboa Bay 17s) and Kyler Presho (middle - 949 18s)
Rockstar is going to be good. They added Sam Lewis, the top middle in the class of 2017.

Seems like 949 will be a good team. Spectrum didn't really pick up any one else as Colin Bailey did not join. Any other title contending teams that I haven't mentioned?

NCVC and SMBC (both tied for 5th in 16 open last year) should be good this year. SMBC lost their setter - Chris Hall - but added Anthony Devantier (formerly on Legacy 16s) so they should be just as good. NCVC still has their good core of Neil Reilly, Taylor Ittner, Dawson Fugate, Ryan DeWeese (Fugate and DeWeese could both play 16's this year).
Not many other good teams in the 17s division. MVVC is probably going to be OK, Bay to Bay will fall off the map without Schneidmiller (he moved up to 18s) and I don't think 949 is deep enough to contend.

Any news on 17's teams from Midwest and East Coast? Well here are the Midwest and East Coast finishes from Nationals 16 Open:

I don't think you need to worry about the Midwest and East Coast Teams in the 2016 Gold Bracket for 17 Open, except maybe Pace.
I believe Hitmen 16s split up and left the club.

Hitmen 16's lost 3 players that all left for Sports Performance who were Cam Lilly (Opp), Sean Farmer (S), and Johnny Winkler (OH). Still maintained most of their core players from last year. Vanguard looked pretty good at Nationals last summer finishing in the silver bracket. Also, I feel as if MVC might have just had a bad National Tournament. They finished 2nd overall at the St. Louis qualifier. Ultimate lost their starting setter (staying in the 16's division because of age) and Club 1 will most likely be no factor at all this season. I agree with you on this one, Truth. Seems as if West Coast will be dominant, as always.

Have you ever seen a player skip his 17s year to play 18s? I played 16s last year (that's my age) and could maybe play on an 18s team this year. It might be a better option than my 17s team would be from a playing standpoint. I'd like to play in college. Realistically, I'm a D3 prospect. Maybe a chance for a lower level D1/D2 because I have great grades. Would college coaches still see me at qualifiers and nationals if I'm on an 18s team or do they only look at 17s?

Many clubs have players play up an age group based on age, club needs, player development, etc. The college coaches are looking at 18s, 17s, and 16s players in Open and Club levels. You have to market yourself and not wait for coaches to come to you. Some players benefit from playing with older kids. When you look at high school and college teams, they are picked from four classes (freshmen, sophomore, junior, and seniors) and the best rise to the top no matter the age. Some clubs look at the age as a higher priority rather than the best interests of player development.
Bottom line: Continue to be a solid student...And focus on becoming a better volleyball player...

Any news on 17's teams from Midwest and East Coast? I think a few teams to watch from the Midwest area are Vanguard, MVC, Hitmen, Southport and Unltimate. Seen major improvements in the last half of last season from these teams.

That would be their setter, OPP, and OH, so I don't think they will be in the mix.

They did lose three key players to SPRI, but there were not their best players. They maintained their best OH (Robbie Murphy) who was the best player for them all year, including Nationals. Also were able to keep their starting middle, liberos, and backup rightside. From viewing their online roster, it seems they have added a couple new players from around the area. It will be interesting to see how this team adapts to their key losses.

So Hitmen lost their starting setter Sean Farmer, Opposite Cameron Lily, OH Winkler, and a MH to SPVB. Hitmen returns their OH Murphy who is not their best option last year offensively. I would say their best player is Cameron Lily from last year. So who did they bring on to their 17s team? They return only 5 guys from the team last year. They can a setter from a terrible NVC team, and OH from a terrible Cyclones team, and 3 players that did not play club last year. You right they are going to be Awesome. hahaha.
