With the high school season wrapping up this coming weekend and club tryouts right away the following weekend, I thought I'd get a 2016 Wisconsin club thread going.
It's hard to find pre-season MVC info (they haven't had info meetings the past couple years, their website still has last year's teams/coaches listed), so I did a little digging to find out about their coaching line-up for this coming season. MVC teams are registered for the Chicago and St Louis qualifiers and because they name their teams after their coaches, we're able to determine the teams/coaches. There were coaching adjustments made as late as tryouts last year, so I'm sure this list is subject to change. Here's what I found:
18-JAKE 17-BRIAN (1s) - Interesting to see Plaisted not coach this group this year. Rushmer must not have Germantown kids playing club at 17s 17-TONY (2s) - I assume Bichler? 16-KYLE (1s) - Olmstead moving up with this group (I assume this is Olmstead, not Ullsperger) 16-AARON (2s) - I assume Lang? (staying at 16-2s) 15-PHIL (1s) - I assume Lambe? 15-BOBBY (2s) 14-JON (1s) 14-ALYSSA (2s) 13-JAMES
Sting has their coaching staff posted on their website: 18 Ryan Thompson & Jeff Schmitz 17 Marko Grgic & TJ Abshire 16 Jacob Oberbruner & John Jablonowski 15 Tamari Clementi 14 Riley Stone & Daniel Chipman 13 Ed Fried & Dave Olson 12 Mary Blandino & Allison Czapalewski
Ryan Thompson keeping the 18s group for a fourth year (going back to Lightning days). 4 years is a long time for a team to have the same coach. Any thoughts on this?
Any news from other WI clubs leading into the club season?

Wow that is some good research. The MVC coaching staff is subject to change based on High School players and coaches of those high school teams. I did have to put names on the teams to register them for qualifiers to make sure we got spots in them. Some of these will change of course. The ones that are certain as of this week. 18-Jake (assistant Brad Kuehl), 17-Tony, 16-Kyle (yes Olmstead - Assistant Kevin Perhach), 15-Phil (assistant Carlos Cruz former Director of Vasqueres out of Puerto Rico), 15-Bobby (assistant Matt Klingspohn), 13-James. Everything else could change depending on tryouts and what players fit in best with what teams.
Plaisted will be involved with the 17's group, but as you mentioned 4 years with the same head coach is a long time.

So only one 18's at MVC? That won't give seniors many options in Milwaukee area; does not look like Southwest or Lake Country are putting up 18's teams this year, nothing on their websites.

If this years group of 18's wants to do what last year's did and form 2 teams and train as a group we have a plan in place for that as well. With our new practice location during the week, it allows us to do some excellent skill and individual training during the week. From the rumors we have heard we are not sure how many 18's will be coming out for tryouts all across the board this year so it was still a wait and see, but if there are 24 kids who want to work together to form 2 teams at MVC we will happily make that happen. We at MVC will make a point and try and accommodate all the players who wish to tryout out for a spot in a program at any age. Hence why we have not released all of our coaches, because we have so many high school coaches it will be a wait and see to where they will go to follow WIAA rules. (I think I just got called for a double hit while posting this)

Any early predictions for this year's top teams at each age group? I would guess Sting 18's and then the rest would be MVC-17, MVC-16 and MVC-15. Of course 18's all depends what seniors decide to play; I am assuming the core group comes back for Sting with the addition of Matt Zeske

Any early predictions for this year's top teams at each age group? The mvc 15s will have a lot of boys trying out for them this year, so they should have a lot going for them.

Southport 16s should be a good team again this year too. I think several of the Kaukauna and Appleton North kids have played WVA Nightmares in the past. If they play this club season, I would expect Nightmares to have a formidable team at 18s and maybe 17s too.

Just an update from MVC:
We are closer to finalizing our coaching positions and who will be going where, but we will not be able to know for sure until the tryout process takes place so we can put the best coaches with the best teams based on their make up of players.
We also have signed an agreement with St. Anthony's school next to the airport where we will now practice in a giant field house that will have sport court throughout and can hold up to 6 courts with ample service runways and high ceilings. All the equipment in the school will be brand new as well. We have full access to this facility on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Including classrooms for video review sessions.
With all this new practice room we are pleased to announce that we are bringing back our skill sessions for players on Tuesday nights. Joining the staff for skill sessions will be Devin Young who played at BYU and recently moved to the area. Devin also helped out with Brookfield East this past high school season.

Great news about MVC. Saw this on Sting's website. They are announcing their own facility. These are both important developments for volleyball in Milwaukee. Congratulations to both clubs.
From Sting:
The facility is the former Kohl’s Distribution Center called the Woodale Property at N54W13901 Woodale Drive, Menomonee Falls, WI (Lilly Rd., just north of Silver Spring Ave., about 3 minutes off of Hwy. 45)... we will have 8 training/competition courts of Taraflex, the same floor the Olympians play on. This surface is so much better for the well-being and injury prevention of our athletes, we felt it was a priority. In addition to the arena that will house our volleyball courts, we will also take over a kitchen/cafeteria, conference room, and 3 offices, with access to an 18 stall women’s restroom and large men’s restroom. We anticipate moving in sometime in February. We will share more details as they become available.

After your joists for the roofs you lose 5-7 feet of space as well, If this is indeed a 35' clear building then what a great add for the Milwaukee area. Also are you filling in the load leveler pits or will they not be an issue with the layout?

Heard Sting gave out offers for 2s teams this weekend. Didn' know they were fielding 2s teams this year. Maybe for the younger teams; did not for 18's; 17's on Sat only had maybe 12 kids there. On a side note, Davies did not try out for Sting 18's opting to play for Lake Country again. Saw that Watry tried out for Sting 18's and heard that he accepted an offer. Assuming this means Campbell becomes a backup setter and Watry runs the team (which is what they wanted to do last year).
