Both Miami and Georgia Tech are hitting over .400 for the match. If you prefer a little defense, flip on over to the Big East semifinal. Creighton and Marquette have combined for more digs at 17-12 in the first set than Tech and Miami have through two full sets... Illinois St and UNI last night combined for about 200 digs in their 4 set match. Good defense? Or weak offense? "Inability to terminate" for sure.

That is exposing a flaw in the calculation. Should matches be increasingly weighted as the season progresses? Most observers would say yes under the assumption that what a team does in November is more indicative of their tournament potential than what they do in September. I'm not so sure about that, but that's a widely held notion. I think it would help if teams would have more non-conference matches in late October through November instead of having all of them to start the season. Then we'd get a better barometer on team and conference power as the tourney approaches. If you want to put more weight on late season matches, you're severely crippling the chances of teams outside of the Big 5 conferences to put together a good resume. Conference standings weight all matches the same, whether they are played in September or on Thanksgiving; I see no reason why a full regular season resume should be any different. The argument would be because who you were yesterday correlates more strongly with who you are today as opposed to who you were 2 months ago correlating with who you are today. It's a Markov model for prediction about what will happen tomorrow. Teams suffer injuries, make positional switches, strategic and tactical switches, etc. as a season progresses. Some teams get better and some get worse. E.g. Nebraska's win against Oregon meant more when they played than it does now presumably because Nebraska has improved while Oregon has regressed (or maybe they weren't that good to begin with and enjoyed an inflated reputation based on previous years).

I agree that's how you predict who will win a match. Should we give the SEC title to Florida because Pablo says they're the best team? In my opinion, tournament selection should be based on what you've accomplished and not necessarily on who would win if they played tomorrow.

Miami defeats Georgia Tech 3-1
Marquette took set 3 from Creighton and now leads 18-13 in the fourth, looking to force a 5th set.
Colorado is up big in the third set, looking to take a 2-1 lead.
TCU takes set 1 over West Virginia 25-12.

That's fair, but all these teams are all in the same 'ballpark' in Pablo. Creighton would be favored over Miami, so they must be either better at either offense or defense (if not both).

Marquette wins the fourth set 25-20 to force a 5th set.
Both teams are led by freshmen OHs. Taylor Louis (MARQ) has 26 kills and Jaali Winters (CRE) has 20.
Creighton's setter is severely hobbled with injuries so you have to think the longer this match goes, the bigger the advantage Marquette has. And even if Creighton does win, it could affect her in tomorrow's championship match.

The Marquette coach is still is arguing over the point of 5-4 Creighton. The 2nd official tried to answer him and the lady at the side table is trying to calm him down.

The official called a double on a first contact. The ball was blocked by Creighton then went from Marquette's attacker's face to her platform in quick succession. That's usually not interpreted as two separate attempts to play the ball.

It seems that Creighton is wanting it more than the Marquette team. 12-8 in the 5th set
