She could be as well. She was asked to play 6 rotations this year. This could have affected her play or it could be a sophomore slump. Really she's just not as consistent this year; she's had some poor matches and she carried her team in a few. As far as Ali, clearly something was different. She played all the way around for the whole match, except for a couple service subs, and played extremely well. Her passes were good contacts against a very aggressive serving team and her defense was solid with 7 digs. In addition, she may have had her most dominant front line matches of the season hitting .500 with zero errors and 4 blocks. She was impressive. Agreed. My hope is that she will continue with these types of performances through to the end of the tourney. The audio announcers in the last game (namely, Laura B. a player on the team) mentioned how she mimics Courtney in some aspects of the game. I'm wondering, since Courtney seemed to struggle since her return from injury (up until the MD match, that is), if that was rubbing off on Frantti. Hopefully they pull it all together for the last 6 matches of the post-season.

Yes. Only as of late and that's probably due to "fatigue," according to coach. If you watch the earlier games, she was excellent in passing, but needed to improve her digging skills and communication. Not sure Coach was referring to Holcomb with the "gassed" comment. Passing has been an issue all year, even as early as the Villanova match. Kendall passed regularly throughout last year's tourney run and was particularly stellar in the Stanford match. I think coach would disagree, since her started Holcomb for the majority of the regular season and he mentioned in an interview that Holcomb is a very good passer. If he though Pierce was better, she'd be wearing the different color jersey back then. Since Holcomb has been struggling a bit lately I believe he thought that Pierce would offer a more stability to the team play. She's looking good, let's hope the team pulls it together and they make a solid run in the final 6 matches of the tourney.

Point is it was a fortunate one and the team is cooking behind her leadership in the backcourt. Kendall P. has put together back to back stellar performances averaging 4 digs/set with zero RE. PSU is playing some impressive and inspired volleyball. Looking forward to a great test in Lincoln.

I wonder if Russ reads VT and all the suggestions that should be made to his team, then laughs and pushes close with one of his seven National Championship rings.

Kendall has stepped to the challenge and is playing very well at libero. It is her dream come true. Nebraska will be a big test for the Lions.

I thought Weiskircher had one of her best games against Northwestern, as far as setting players in a less predictable fashion. That was encouraging.

It's nice to see these things come together. Next the team faces the acid test at Devaney. What happens there should help PSU fans calibrate their expectations for the coming weeks.

Of course it did. She didn't need her track shoes. Other than that the connections with her hitters were very good and of course her serving continues to roll.

A chain (or team) is only as strong as its weakest link. Now we will find out how strong it is at Nebraska.
