How does recruiting work in the East when they look for players in the west? And how does a player pursue a college if they're on the other side of the country? D1 or D3, if a player on the west coast is interested in a school like Loyola Chicago or NYU, do they just send them highlight tapes and such? Not too familiar with how that process works, as it's very unconventional for them to watch tournaments that go on in the west.

Most schools are willing to travel to the other coasts to watch players and find talent

I coach on the east coast and I make recruiting trips to CA for the Holiday Classic or SCVA qualifier. If our schedule allows it, I even go to the Chicago or St. Louis qualifier. And then there is Nationals. I also communicate a lot with the club directors and explain to them what we are looking for and what type of academic requirements are need for our school. After that, it's a lot of communication with the recruit and following their progress via video.

Coaches can watch you play for 30 seconds and know in an instant if they should keep watching you play. It is really a simple matter of how physical you are. So, if want to impress a "long distance" coach, might I suggest that you make a YouTube video of yourself and send it to schools that you are interested in and schools that you are not interested in (sorry about ending this sentence in a preposition.) Do not get a recruiting service. Waste of money. If you touch 10'10" and above, you are in the ball park of playing at the next level. If you touch 11'4", you could not hide from the coaches if you tried.

Just send their coaches a brief youtube video link... and on their webpages, they will typically also have a recruiting link to add in your info.. If you haven't picked out schools, start here: www.ncaa.com/sports/volleyball-menthere is also somewhere on the NCAA where you can find the D2/D3/NAIA schools offering Men's VB... the homework is up to you
