Sheff thinks the draw is "different, " using the midwestern sense of the word. Oregon probably thinks the pairing is "unusual."
But I like how he embraces the challenge and especially his evaluation of his team's mindset.

I'm no expert on the history of first-round match-ups, but has there been a tougher first round pairing since the tournament expanded to 64 teams?

You mean has there been a tougher first round matchup for a seeded team? I can't recall one. It's a real oddity.
You know I often dislike first round matches because I find them boring, or dissatisfying. I don't think this one will be boring. I hope it will be satisfying.

I can gripe about the Thursday matchup again: Packers play that night and so does women's hockey.
For the record, I don't care about missing the Packers, not one flip, but others will prioritize that.

Let me make sure I understand this. And someone please correct me if I'm making an error.
Wisconsin is the #6 seed. Penn State is the #7 seed. Good so far?
Wisconsin finished 1 full game ahead of Penn State in the B1G. Still good?
Wisconsin has to open the tournament - first round - against RPI #48 Oregon, a Pac12 team. Am I still doing okay?
Penn State, the perennial host of C.U.P.C.A.K.E. central, with an annual pass to the round of 16 opens against a team with an RPI of 228.
Is that f***** or what?

I really wish the NCAA tournament selection folks ranked all teams in the tournament 1-64 and then let the brackets speak for themselves. I realize that creates a ton of travel burdens but so what. They do it for basketball and that is the most popular tournament in all of sports. It would eliminate these examples of unfair seedings. I'm not complaining for Wisconsin. You got to beat a lot of good times to attain their goals. But the tournament would be better for all 64 teams if they were ranked merit based. Merit based is always best.

Wisconsin has a tough draw for round 1.......but I still pick them in 5. Oregon is pushing such a quick offense....when it works it works, but sometimes a little too fast. If they execute, could give Wisconsin a headache!

Wisconsin will be jumping in the frying pan with Oregon. I think the Badgers prevail but it will not be easy. My feeling is that Oregon gave the UW Huskies their toughest match of the second half of the season. They are much better than their 16-13 record indicates. If Oregon were playing a slightly lower tier team from the B1G, maybe Michigan or Purdue, I'd be picking Oregon.
