You can say Hawaii played bad, but Nikki Taylor is not over-hyped. This was not a good day for her but she still managed to get 21 kills. In fact, this was the worst I've seen the team play. We'll see how they play tomorrow. Iam sorry I beg to differ. I have been waiting to see Nikki Taylor play her best and it's always average. Hawaii fans keep comparing her to Samantha Bricio. Please don't ! Bricio hits at a high average day in and day out, NT does not. She is a good player, but she is not great. I haven't seen a lot of Hawaii fans comparing Taylor to Bricio. Maybe putting them both on the list of the best players but clearly Bricio has the edge. I disagree that Taylor is not a great player though. She had a very bad match (the worst I've seen her play) but still lead ALL players on the court with 21 kills -- as she has all season. She is definitely not "average".

Didn't see the match live but I would have left Kendra in and feed the middles. Set it high enough where MaGill could just go up and over and crush it straight down. McGill was not in the front row. Maglio was set once n got blocked during that TCU run n the setter just kept setting the outsides after that.. Okay then in that case if Kendra was in I would have had her try a dump shot if there was a chance. Like I said I didn't see the match live so hard to say.

They got her with a triple block, nothing was stopping Hawaii's middle for a long stretch of time. The setter switch was based upon putting up a more solid taller block but never really worked out. I watched a bit of the open gym practice and the taller setter Koelsch set location and footwork were not good. The practice looked like some team that had jet lag except for Nikki Taylor.
Aggies middles looked average last night but that may have been their worst performance in weeks as well. Taylor looked befuddled for the first set and half against a well prepped TCU squad
It should be a fun match for the right to move on. See you at 6:30 CST

I appreciate your insightful posts. TCU did look very well-prepped and are very talented. They did a good job of shutting Nikki down and it clearly got in her head. Sad to hear the practice did not go well for the Wahine. I hope the team gets it together for tonight's match. Kendra provides a real spark for the team but I can see why her playing time is limited if she is not practicing well.

Nikki really looked like she was hurting last night. She was taking big swings but then going almost all the way to the ground and slow to get up. Does anyone know if she's sustained more injuries recently? I know she was pretty banged up earlier. I think Hawaii needs to move Magill and Maglio around tonight to be successful against TAMU, running some 31's and slides to split the block.

Was it against Duke last year in Seattle where they were running the 31s with McGill?

Don't think she sustained additional injuries...however, her knee and her elbow (which isn't visible due to her long sleeve uniform) is heavily bandaged before games. Could that be a factor? Probably. Still think TCU just scouted her well.

I think her production is going to decrease a bit since it's the tournament, but I'm more just worried for her health. She seems like the type of player to push through the pain.

I watched a bit of the open gym practice and the taller setter Koelsch set location and footwork were not good. The problem with that is that every single time (and you can watch past games on youtube) Kendra is the spark of this team when they are down and gets points and does her part to bring Hawaii back. Maybe she does struggle in practice....but when the lights come on and she is called in.....GIRL BALLS OUT! No one can dispute that. If Shoji is gonna live or die with Higgins.....that's cool. But please, I hope he tries to refrain from talking about depth again, if he isn't gonna use it when its needed.

She always has.....and mind you, Beach volleyball season is coming right after this and she is an All-American in that sport. Her family are a bunch of athletes and she always plays with grit and determination. Good sign was that in the post interview. I didn't see her with an ice pack. In previous interviews, I would see her with one on. Maybe it wasn't as bad as it looked.

I had the chance to watch all the teams practice while in and out of the gym. Very few people in the open practices besides the actual teams but I work nights typically so I had the opportunity to see each team. watched all of Hawaii and TCU and TCU spent more time on gameplan it seemed. Corbelli in fact prepped her team for CC quite well in terms of scouting and still they had miscues that I was like thinking as it happened the staff went over that specific thing.
I chalk it up to jet lag but the setting was all over the place during practice by the taller setter to a point I honestly thought for a bit she was a middle just setting balls on her side of the court.
