Ok so I get that we all hate the RPI. Really. But since everyone knows what the committee uses then the only thing we should use to measure is the RPI, Pablo and Avca are nice, but RPI is what matters.
Imagine if instead of everyone complaining about the committee using straight RPI, we should wonder why the coaches scheduled the way they did. Colorado shame on you for your non conference, Hawaii- get off the island once a year in the non-conference, 14 team leagues- play a balanced schedule so that some teams don't get stuck playing a bad schedule...
Since the RPI, regionalization etc are going to be here; can't we just go with it. The rules of the game are laid out pretty clearly. Does it suck a little, sure, but at least we all know the rules.

Right. Since complaining about it isn't getting it changed, how about we try ... not complaining about it! Surely that will get it changed!

Wow there are a lot of dumb posts on here but this one takes the cake. If in any season where the RPIs flaw has been exposed it is this one. Look at Florida there is just no way a team with that many questionable losses should be in the Top 4-5 spots for a seed yes the committee tried to do justice and seed Florida lower than their RPI, but one could argue they should have been seeded even lower, if not at all.

Yes, I see what you're saying. Sure, it sucks. Sure, it's unfair. But that's just the way it goes so let's not talk about it anymore and just put a smile on our faces and bend over and take it.

This is a message board. I'm sure you would agree that not everyone would ALL have a similar mindset on this board. Or do you expect them to be? Fact is most of Hawaii fans have already given in to Hawaii's weak RPI and while also understanding it would not host this year.
Another fact......Hawaii will NOT be getting rid of any of its 3 on island tournaments. So yeah....
Maybe Hawaii should schedule like Arkansas State? Oh wait.....nevermind.

since rpi treats home and away matches the same, what exactly is the motivation for hawaii to "get off the island"?
hawaii needs the big west to be better and the teams in the big west to schedule better. period.

We beat Texas, Oregon, FSU, and most of the teams we lost to at some point in the season etc, even the matches we lost we beat those teams at some point in the season. Hopefully we will play in the post season like we were earlier in the year when we beat decent teams but we will see what happens. It will be tough to go past a regional final I think but you never know. Main issue for Florida is consistency. Also the year we were not seeded in 2011 we got to the regional final anyways, so it didn't really matter.

Hey, I'm okay with deciding to use RPI. But then use it. Don't shuffle teams around so that higher ranked Wisconsin gets a much tougher first round opponent than lower ranked Penn State in the first round.
RPI is not the only problem.
Frankly, it's a handful of people with special interests who are making decisions that are genuinely detrimental to the growth of the sport.
The entire process, starting with who is making the decisions, needs a major overhaul.

Frankly, it's a handful of people with special interests who are making decisions that are genuinely detrimental to the growth of the sport. Who are these people and what are their interests? The NCAA loves RPI because the formula is (relatively) easy to understand and it can be used for every sport. Penn State always gets an easy bracket because the NCAA wants to minimize costs and teams in the northeast are bad. Both of those are things that upset people and I'm not even saying those people are wrong. However the reasons behind why those things happen are certainly not nefarious.

Until the NCAA decides not to care about the cost of travel in the early rounds AND seeds the full tournament field, there will always be complaints.
Yes, Penn State benefits by being in the Northeast region. Yes, Wisconsin had a tough road this year. Yes, the committee makes some head-scratching decisions.
No, us talking about it on a message board won't get them to change. But hey, we help keep VolleyTalk's traffic up. So that's something.

With the amount of losses they have and quality of opponents they lost to I don't believe they should have been seeded as high as they were more the 14-16 range. I already expressed my feelings about this Florida team in the Austin Regional thread. I think that they have as much talent on the floor as any of the top teams and certainly could make a deep run or even win the tournament. Florida has been winning in Austin lately seems they are comfortable in that gym even when they play Texas.
