Give her a lot of credit. The women's basketball team needed people for practice after last year's debacle. It speaks well of her that she is willing to do all of that work to help friends. If I reading correctly she'll be the 12th player on the roster I imagine that leaves an opportunity for some legitimate playing time. I don't think she'll be just a practice player.

Will Illinois even be good next year and beyond? Not sure if their recruiting will prove to be good enough

Welcome Erin Lindsey! Coach Lindsey appears to have many of the attributes that Illinois needs. She has the reputation of being an excellent recruiter. Illinois needs a tenacious recruiter who can devote as much time and energy as needed to woo top talent to Illinois. She served as the recruiting coordinator for the UNC Tar Heels for 5 years bringing in some great players.
She also has head coaching experience having coached Dartmouth the last four years culminating in her being named last season's co-coach of the year in the Ivy League: "the Big Green had one of their best seasons to date in 2015. In contention for the conference title for the first time in program history, Dartmouth ended the year last weekend in a five-set battle at Yale, wrapping up the season with an overall record of 12-11 and a program-best 9-5 mark in Ivy play." (Dartmouth Athletic Site)
Also, what a plus for setters at Illinois to have the tutelage of a former setter and setter teaching technician at volleyball camps.
After perhaps Coach Hambly's rockiest year as head coach of the Illini, I think he has definitely upped his game with the addition of Coach Lindsey.

Congrats to Erin, she is a fabulous coach and an even better person. She coached my DD @ UNC and did a fantastic job. My DD always commented to me on how well Erin prepared the team 's strategy for each upcoming match. She will do a great job and help the fighting Illini tremendously(probably much to the chagrin of the Gophers).

Can she recruit Chicago area clubs? Next year roster has Illinois products Kate Roustio from Metro East; Brandi Donnelly, Springfield; Danielle Davis, Bloomington; McKenna Kelsay, Wheaton; and Kaylin Korte, Morris. No Illinois recruits so far in 2017 or 2018. I understand that there are some highly rated recruits coming from other areas, but is there an issue?

Recruiting the Chicago area became much more competitive with the hiring of Shane Davis at Northwestern and Davis' hiring of Erin Virtue as one of his assistants. I do not know much about Davis except what I have read about his success in men's collegiate volleyball. I do know a lot about Erin Virtue going back to her playing days at Illinois. As I have written before, she should have been the starting setter at Illinois the year before she had the fantastic year setting Illinois in 2003. Erin was undersized, perhaps, but in my opinion has always had an 'oversized heart'. That heart was on display every time she took to the volleyball court. So unfortunate that her collegiate career was ended abruptly in her second year of setting for the Illini with an injury.

Erin is from the Chicago suburban town of St.Charles, and played high school volleyball at volleyball powerhouse, Wheaton St.Francis. Her older sister, Katie, also starred as a setter at Wheaton St.Francis, and went on to a great career setting the Ohio State Buckeyes during some of OSU's glory years under great coach Jim Stone.

I just found out that Katie Virtue (Baggett) is now living in Champaign, Illinois. Katie is married to Mason Baggett who is an associate strength coach at the University of Illinois. The couple have three daughters. We need to make sure the Baggetts stay in Champaign for a few more years. I don't know the Baggett girl's ages, but they could eventually make up half a volleyball team here.

Yes, I believe Erin can recruit Illinois. During her tenure at UNC, the Heels had a number of Chicago/Sports Performance kids on the team.

My excitement for the addition of our new recruiting coordinator/assistant coach Erin Lindsey continues to grow as I discover more information about her. She seems to be leaving her former head coaching job at Dartmouth College just as her recruiting efforts for the Big Green were about to pay off. She had 5 promising recruits for next season committed from all over the country, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Florida, California, and Texas.
Watch this Vimeo video of the setter, Mariah Pardo, commenting about her choice of college, Dartmouth, and her main reason for choosing The Big Green (about 1:15 minutes in):
