Wow! How far does UCSB fall in the rankings this week. They are tumbling after a good start of the season, they get swept by unranked Pacific and now in 5 by Idaho. Either there is a lot of parity in the Big West or UCSB is not as good as everyone thought. I can hardly wait to see UCSB play UC Irvine.

Holy %*$# batman, what in the world is going on in the Big West? Looks to me like the conference winner could have as many as 3 losses! UOP is currently in the drivers' seat, but they got some traveling to do and with that travel will come at least 2 or 3 losses. This is going to get interesting!

Wow, that's amazing...
Well, they lost to Idaho... So i'm guessing they're gonna have big problems against UCI's Kelly Wing...
What a crazy year in the Big West!

Am I looking at the wrong place or does Idaho have the worst athletics site out there? It is very crappy. Not as crappy as UC Irvine or Sac State though. (BTW - Mumsie posted the box score while I was still looking for it, so I edited that part.)

What's so crappy about it? I think it's clear and easy to read. Geez! P.S. I nominate Sarah Meek for Big West Player of the Week.

What's so crappy about it? I think it's clear and easy to read. Geez! I dunno. Maybe loading the entire women's athletics program overview when you click on "Women's Sports". It doesn't have the quick drop-down menus on most CollegeSports affiliated websites that you can use to jump to any other sport from any other page. I also like brief summaries of the articles and pictures to go with the articles. I'm so used to CollegeSports/OCSN/FansOnly layouts.

Way to go Idaho!!!
By the way, 1293 in Mem Gym rocks!
I would go out on a limb saying that when there are 1400 there, it's a win for UI, against anyone... what's the new seating restriction? They had to close one section of bleachers because it took too long to evacuate according to the fire marshal.

I just had a look at the stats, and as usual, we outpointed a team we lost to. This time 91-85. This just proves what a worthless stat "points" are. Where did we lose the match? 37 hitting errors to Idaho's 26. The recap tells it all. Tied at 12-12 in the 5th game, UCSB had two hitting errors bringing Idaho to game and match point. UCSB hitters: Middles: Blackshire 19-9 Waldowski 19-9 Outsides: Sandell 23-10 Johansen 7-6 Garbisch 6-6 Hendrickson 1-4 Idaho Hitters: 27-10 13-5 19-6 5-2 That's the story. Our outsides, as a group, got us 11 net (kills-errors) points over a 5 game match. Total net points over the match were 35. Like I've said about Kim Glass, big hitting numbers are worthless if they come with big hitting errors, and it is the responsibility of the hitter to hit smart as well as hard, and if the set isn't good you need to at least find a way to get it over onto the opponents side of the net. Give them a chance to make the errors.

Don't forget about the service errors 4Aces 9 Errors Yeah... too bad you don't get stats by player by game... 24 errors in the first two games (the entire hitting error difference between UCSB and Idaho was in the first two games?)... would be nice to see how those broke out.

I've said for a few weeks now that the Gauchos depend an awful lot on their middles and need their outside hitters to come through. The problem with depending great middles is that you can't always go with them like OHs. You also can only realistically use one MB at a time(backrow MB hits are uncommon even when emphasized, especially with this year's libero rules). You have two outsides and an RS available almost all the time. You need error free production from at least one of those hitters to be successful or it will really hurt you. That's just my opinion. I think once the Gauchos get their attack more consistent, they will run over people.
