So 18s just got a little easier.
SPVB 18 Mizuno is dropping from the event due to the fact that their setter Paul Bischoff is going on a mission trip. The team has a back-up setter. Plus they already have a bid. Is this common practice? At every level of sports from youth sports to pros do teams actually drop when they still have enough players to field a team.
Sucks to be that back up setter. Not a lot of confidence in him.
Odd for Sports Performance Program to go this route kinda goes against what they stand for. I have never seen SPRI drop their #1 team from an event. I guess they are trying to protect their seed/finish from IL bid event. Why? Frozen roster excuse doesn’t work when you already have a back-up setter on the team.
Would be funny if 18 Runbird finishes in top 3 at Gateway. Then they will be seeded over Mizuno.
But let’s be honest they are not going to win at Nationals anyways based on this mentality of dropping out and being a quitter when you face adversity in life.

Predictions for the 16s division.
Already Have Bids: HPSTL B16 Royal (GW) HVA 16 PERFORMANCE (LS) Roch PaceBootleggr161 (WE) Ultimate B16 Gold (GL) LIVBC 16 National Gold (GE) MVC B16-KYLE (BG) Chicago Bounce 16 Red (GL)
Contenders for the Three Bids: Adversity 16 Purple (GL) BRYC Boys 16 National (CH) Momentum 16 Black Boys (RM) RVC 16-1 (OD) Southport 16s (BG) SPVB B16 Runbird (GL)
I think the three bids, based on previous finishes and the Chicago qualifier, will be Adversity 16 Purple, Southport 16s and RVC 16-1.

For 16s, I think that southport, BRYC, and RVC played really well at Chicago but they don't really have what it takes to get the bid. I predict Adversity with a definite bid and the two others up for grabs

Only 3 or 4 teams that finished in Gold/Silver and did not receive bids will be in STL, so it might even drift as far down as Bronze (Hitmen, HPSTL Orange, etc.)

BRYC definitely had a rough Chicago tournament and finished well below where anticipated but keep in mind they did beat Ultimate on Day 2. They are a team of boys who don't have varsity high school volleyball at all and they don't even start practicing until December, long after all the Midwest and West Coast teams are already playing tournaments. Last year they won St. Louis with the exact same roster after finishing 4th at Can-Am so it is a little early to count them out.

True, BRYC did win this event last year, but I do not see them as a contender this year. They just don't have the height to compete with the best teams.
The true contenders are LIVBC, MVC, Ultimate and HPSTL (in no order).

RVC, Adversity, and Runbird for 16s should get bids. Bryc may be in that mix as well. Adversity can beat some of the tops teams but is also capable or losing to 3 seeds...

For the 18's Based on who has bids the following teams should be in the hunt for the three bids:
Adversity Purple D1 Chicago Coastal HPSTL 2 Sting Uno Vanguard
Not sure about the other clubs who would take a bid but, based on seedings am sure there are a couple other clubs with a viable shot. Of the above my guess would be the following three: Sting Uno Adversity purple
After this all that's left is east coast and a couple of at large bids. Since San Juan didn't secure a bid at Florida Fest, they either need one at east coast or at large. There will be a number of teams left out and curious to see if they attend east coast in May.

I don't think Adversity has what it takes. I think I like Uno, Sting, and D1 out of that group you have.
