Is it just the news or have there actually been more wildfires in California over the last decade? Probably not more. Definitely worse. Drought and the hottest decade in recorded history will do that, especially in a place that has always had wildfires.

how did you figure out the spoiler code?
I found it in a video game forum several years ago where they used it to hide key plot points. I’m not the first to use it in VT as I’ve seen others do it, although not many.

Is it just the news or have there actually been more wildfires in California over the last decade? For as long as I’ve lived here, wildfires have been common. It’s mostly in Southern California due to the Santa Ana winds and the presence of dry brushes. It would rain a lot in the winter and spring (although certainly not as much as in other areas of the country, e.g., Pacific Nothwest), which creates lots of vegetation, followed by drought the rest of the months which creates dry vegetation. The wind picks up a lot in the Fall in strength and duration and there’s always some sort of accident, e.g., doofs playing with matches, flying branches hitting old power line equipment, random sparks, and it’s a recipe for disaster. In Northern California, same thing although not as wild as Southern California. The worst was last year. The smoke from the Paradise wildfire reached all the way to the Bay Area. It was worse than hazy. A thick glob of smoke just blanketed this place. Visibility was poor. People were wearing masks. You couldn’t even breathe. So, basically, we have rains in winter/spring which create lots of vegetation, followed by no rain which create dried vegetation, followed by strong winds in Late summer and Fall, followed by either some random spark or random act of stupidity by a doof, all of which happen annually and therefore fire. And we don’t get any rains until winter.

So for people living in California, I have a question. Are there zoning limits set for the high fire risk zones in California? I'd always heard that it is like along the Atlantic coast, where people build indiscriminately by the ocean to get the ocean view and the hurricanes come and sweep them into the ocean, except people in California build expensive homes where they shouldn't and end up getting their houses burnt up and then get financial assistance to put up homes in the same area.

For an hourly worker working tonight from 11pm to 7am, would they get paid for 8 or 9hrs?
Likewise in Spring would they be paid for 7 or 8 hrs?

here's another thought....since time kinda stands still tonight, what if that was our purge hour? no crimes committed during that time could be prosecuted.

I was just watching The Purge (season 1) this past week! I watched all three films plus the TV show. They're not masterpieces by any stretch of the imagination and have a somewhat crappy feel, but the idea is intriguing. Not that I'm FOR the idea. It's terrible, of course. If there was such a thing, I'd travel to Europe on Purge Night.
