But there is good news for Stanford. The other national player of the year they are getting is every bit as good as the hype. Gray will be the best setter in the PAC, perhaps in the country if she keeps progressing! Someone posted on the Stanford thread there were a half dozen setters in the 2016 class better than Gray. Now Gray might become the best setter in the country? There is no rational way two opinions evaluating the same player can be that far apart.

Nor a rational reason why a thread about middles ends up being about a setter. But I think your answer is there for the grabbing: "two opinions." I'll give you mine: There's no way to know how these incoming freshmen will do at the next level until they play at the next level.

I predict King will start at Florida as the M2 and do quite well as a freshman.

Had the opportunity to watch Pittman and Fitzmorris this weekend here in Dallas. It's not even close. Pittman is much more dynamic attacking the ball. Who knows what they will be 4 years from now. All I can go by is what I have seen over the last 4 years. Fitzmorris was incredible 4 years ago compared to the competition. Now she is good. She is a novel player in that she is 6'6" and can play the back row, but at open level competition, which is a very high level, but probably not as great as the PAC week in and week out, she is not that impressive of an attacker. She plays all across the front row and is most effective in the middle. Most teams have a kid just as good at scoring on the pin, if not better. I would definitely give her the advantage over Pittman in blocking, but not offensively. The bang to hype ratio just isn't there. But there is good news for Stanford. It would be good for you and a few of the VT posters to look at the results and the statistics from the Qualifiers. Invasion again beat KC Power in Dallas and beat them in Kansas City. KC Power with Pittman lost four sets on the final day while Invasion just lost one. Fitzmorris, Hart, Gray, Starr, Ackeson, Torti, etc. outplayed KC Power, Skyline and Excel on the final day. On MaxPreps you can see the high school statistics and results. Fitzmorris hit .333, .625, and .480 against Pittman's Aquinas team. Aquinas also has a 6'6" FSU recruit Mariah Brim so their block is much bigger than St. James'. Pittman, 6'5", hit .312, .130 and .053 against Fitzmorris and St. James. Fitzmorris had 12, 15 and 14 kills. Pittman had 7, 7, and 9 kills. St. James won against Aquinas in the state final 25 - 16 and 25 - 7.

You could also argue that Fitzmorris had better supporting casts than Pittman in both high school and club though

Invasion didn't even make the gold bracket in Minneapolis. Not sure looking at "qualifier results" would really back up OP's claims, especially when you consider supporting casts.

Have you watched the two play against good competition? That's what you should be looking at, rather than high school statistics...

The high school statistics were from the 3 times St. James Academy beat St. Thomas Aquinas during the 2015 season. Therefore, they were playing good competition (In other words Fitzmorris and Pittman were playing directly against each other.)

I've seen these two play against each other several times and neither there hs or club records are accurate ways to access their skills since there are 5 other players on the court that contribute in VB ;-). They are both great players at the highest level in talent. What sets them apart is their attitude an approach. Fitz is a top tier all around player that never gets rattled and has honed her gifts over several years of play. Pittman is dynamic, athletic, aggressive, powerful and getting better every year. What will be exciting to watch is how Fitz's Stanford discipline stacks up against Pittman and Minnesota's rocking' PAV atmosphere as the two grow over their careers. So looking forward to it!
