19--UCSB 20--San Diego Didn't know what to do with UCSB, but decided to keep the faith. Knocking on the top 20 gates: ... 23--LBSU (and, yes, I know they beat Utah) ... 27--UCI (I have them much higher than Pablo) We'll hopefully know a bit more after UCSB takes on UCI friday and LBSU Saturday (unless of course we take a page from the Pac10 book and split those two matches ) UCSB seems to be on an alternating good game/bad game trend that I'm hoping gets broken next weekend in a positive way (otherwise it means we lose at home to LBSU )

Not that one spot really matters, but I'm curious why UCLA ahead of St Mary's? That was the only one of 11-20 that I kinda had solidified They both have a Loss to Utah (St Mary's only loss?) St Mary's beat Stanford (twice) and UCLA lost to Stanford then based on poll continuity (UCLA beat a team they should have and lost to one they shouldn't have so they should move down at least one spot right?) so I'm just curious about that one so I would've had St Mary's 11 then UCLA 12 (unfortunately after that I was lost, except I think if it were a vacuum I had the Pac-10 figured out) Pac-10 mess: USC won 1 they should have and lost one they shouldn't have (moves down) UCLA won 1 they should have and lost one they shouldn't have (moves down) CAL lost one they should have and won one they shouldn't have (moves up or stays flat) Stanford lost one they should have and won one they shouldn't have (moves up or stays flat) Oh yeah and UCSB was the only one to lose 2 games? so they get booted furthest (appreciate the 19, like I said before poll momentum keeps us in, but currently we don't deserve it... we will if we sweep next weekend though )

UCSB is hit with the Idaho-penalty. You lose to the Taters and I sock it to you but good. ;D
I can't ignore the fact UCLA has beaten (swept) TAMU, Santa Clara and Cal. Meanwhile, so far, the 2 Stanford wins are StM's only wins over top 25 teams. Could just be that particular matchup?
I'll know a lot more about StM's after next weekend.
But, honestly, I don't have a clue about 11-20.

I had Texas at #2 last week - no reason to change this week. KSU will remain unranked for me. Kansas State is a top 20 team and Texas is better. It was not a blow out as game two after seeing it on tv tonight could have gone either way. Texas may be a top 5 team this year. As far as KSU going 5 with Iowa State and KU, remember they won both and are still 3rd in the Big 12. I'm really anxious to see the Nebraska/Texas matchup as I think Nebraska will have their work cut out for them especially at Texas. I wish Fox would pick up this match because this could be a final four caliber match.

Shouldn't Stanford be ranked higher than UCLA? After beating them on their home court....

UCLA has more quality wins than Stanford--which basically has one (unless you want to count home wins over AZ and Cal (in 5)). I actually had a real hard time ranking Stanford as high as I did. It also meant I had to rank St Marys higher than I think they should be.
It's a mess.

It'll be that way till tourney time. And then it'll be even messier.

My problem is that I'm still trying to figure out who is better. I should just scrap that and go to the reward system. Who DESERVES to be ranked where.
The problem with the former is that I think there's just too much parity. One match doesn't tell you much, especially if it's a win at home.

Once you get your list together, it's not too difficult to tweak it each week based on what happened the prior 7 days. Although winning teams usually don't move down, it happened to Florida this week. The AVCA voters must have been embarrassed by having relatively overlooked unbeaten Texas and Ohio State for so long.

The problem with the former is that I think there's just too much parity. One match doesn't tell you much, especially if it's a win at home. A few voters in the VT Top 20 have gone to the latter. Thus the major differential between some teams rankings among the voters. Funny though, even with the variation, the final outcome is very similar to the AVCA and RichKern polls.
