Looks like Stanford will struggle until they can pass the ball and learn to play some defense. They don't seem to know their own system very well so how can they concentrate on their opponent. Anyone that can shut down Ogonna can pretty much take a match. Why does Dunning have Kehoe playin three roles on the court? Seems like it's putting alot on a freshman to set a couple rotations, hit a couple rotations and play backrow a rotation...........

Sometimes the Cardinal plays really good defense and sometimes they don't. It's really a crapshoot with them. For example, the defense was non-existent against USC for the first two games, but it picked up considerably over the last two. The Penn State match, the defense was really good, much better than I expected. But what I heard from the St. Mary's losses, defense was once again no where to be found. It must be frustrating for Dunning, who is working hard with the girls and trying to make them more consistent... but the results sometimes are there. They can pass and defend well... when they want to, which is the key. I also think Girard needs to do a better job stepping up with her blocking. I know, I know, she's just a freshman... but at the UCLA game, she had 10 blocks. Against Pacific, she only had 1 in 5 games. With her being a full-time starter since the season began, you'd expect a little bit more consistency from her, even if she's a freshman. I just hope she continues to play like she did against Berkeley for all the big matches we have coming up.

IF there is such a thing as a good loss, this was it! Losing to Stanford in a close 5 set match AT STANFORD, should leave little doubt that UOP is legit! Go for you UOP and Big West!

I believe the game was at UOP.

I stand corrected, my bad Still a very respectable effort. Stanford, on paper, is a much better team, but for some reason they seem to be underperforming a bit right now.....

Stanford has the equivalent of TWO #1 Draft picks and a slew of Fab 50's! Whats wrong on the farm??

Actually, I think Stanford's underperforming a lot. Pacific has obviously improved dramatically from last year (I was at the Pacific-LBSU match in the Pyramid and Pacific was stinkin' up the joint), but I'm still shocked at how close this match was.
I have a feeling this year will be an early exit from the NCAAs.

No libero with both excellent passing AND lateral quickness. Oganna Nnamani as a back-row defender. Those couldn't be the reasons could they?

Perhaps if Kehoe were given the opportunity to run a 5-1. That's all she has ever known. Now she is hitting a couple rotations too. As stated earlier - a lot for a freshman to do.........

I was watching one of the MANY replays shown so far of the USC-Stanford match and there was a blurb on an interview with John Dunning where he says something along the lines of "it's a serving and passing game, we have good passing .... " *DOI* ... umm, maybe that's why the Cardinal is not looking for a good ball handler, he thinks they already have good passing! ... I was floored by that comment, but .. um..ok ..done. lol

For those of you who think Ogonna is not a leader for this team, read the above article.
