This is very good. The pilot especially.

I just finished Season 3. It's probably my favorite TV series of all time. Game of Thrones comes a close second. Keri Russell is so scary good. It was hard to imagine her in this role and then her acting chops kicks in and suddenly, she becomes Elizabeth Jennings and not Keri Russell.

I never watched even a single episode of Felicity, and yet when I hear the name Keri Russell I think, "Oh, Felicity, right?"

Ditto all those actresses in Sex and the City -- Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, etc. Never saw a single episode.

As the second scene in Season 1, Episode 1 was underway, I heard a familiar drumbeat and music in the background. I thought to myself, "I know that song, I know that beat, what the crap is that? It's like on the tip of my tongue." It was Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk," one of those songs that's just familiar enough to spark something in my brain but not so familiar that I could name it immediately with certainty. I don't listen to Fleetwood Mac all the time and I definitely don't have "Tusk" on any playlist. But as soon as you hear those unmistakable drumbeats in that particular rhythm, my brain goes "Hey, I know that song...I think?"
Anyway, one of the great scenes in The Americans. I was going to say the opening scene of Season 1, Episode 1, but the scene accompanied by "Tusk" is not the opening scene. It's the second scene. The opening scene is Elizabeth seducing this government official.

I've just started Season 2, but -- so far -- they haven't had an episode yet that rivals the style of the pilot. That episode SANG.

I will say, however, that this business of spying as much as they do -- with two kids at home -- is pretty damned laughable. And it's even a major point of the series, the effect it has on their family.

Yes, they're very busy and can multi-task without much effort. I know that if I were a spy, I don't know how I'd get any work done at my legitimate American job. I know I won't be able to see my kids at all. At night, I'd be exhausted. That's the thing with TV shows and movies, characters seem to have unlimited energy reserve and short recovery period.

Yeah, I've been watching it from the get-go. Good show, not perfect, but very enjoyable.

As a former long-time DC area resident, the geographic discontinuities are disconcerting. The first episode also featured a glaring anachronism--an over-the-stove microwave in the kitchen (not in 1981!). They did fix it the second episode.
