I'm surprised that Hawaii isn't playing UCLA at all this season. Surprisingly our beach only players beat their beach only players in the fall. Our pairs actually tested the McNamara twins too which is great. I wonder how our teams would match-up with the full rosters of indoor and beach only players. For now I'm just going to go on with predictions without Rooks in there. My guess for pairs would be this. Taylor / Schucht Martin / Tucker Maglio / Homayun Zalopany / Kan The fifth usually is the pair that rotates throughout different pairs every game so we could see many of different pairs there. Just curious....what makes you say Kan over Smith/Kidd/Luyties? Well although Kan hasn't been training beach only like some of these kids have been for years, Kan has played beach before at the prep level and during her times at home. It may take her a little bit to get fully adjusted but from the indoor game you can see her selection of shots and athleticism. She won't be able to pound the ball all the time but she has a great look at the game which will help her. I predicted she go with Zalopany because both are what UH considers "middle" players since they're not tall or short for the beach game. That seems to be easier for Zalopany because she never seemed to be a back row only or front row only type of player. So I think they will balance each other. Its hard to predict which of these freshman can crack the top five pairs with the all the experience they return.

In Cindy luis' blog, she mentioned that Hannah Rooks wa suspended indefinitely for "breaking a team room." Wow! That's what I call a beast! To totally trash a team room! The rage in that girl! LOL! I'm assuming it was a simple typo. If not, party on, Hannah! Hahaha! Made me lol for real!

Tucker/Martin did well in the fall. I bet they're penciled in. With whom will Maglio and Taylor (if healthy) partner? Does Homayun (without Rooks) go with Maglio? Taylor will need someone who can move around. I look forward to seeing what Kahakai, Kan and Smith can do on the sand. Will the Bows have a pair that can beat Claes/Hughes or the twins? I think they'll have to win the lower flights to beat the big teams.

I think we can put together a team to beat the twins. Spieler and Maglio were up on them in the final game of the NCAA Championship and were a point a from winning (by a decent margin) before the final whistle went. Maglio continues to improve and there are some good players (with perhaps different strengths than Spieler) to also rival them. There are probably a couple of the "big" and "small" pairs that will do well against the twins. I think they'll take UCLA this year.
Not sure if anyone beat Claes and Hughes this year. You never know though!

Who will be the top teams this year (other than Hawaii)? USC, FSU again? Pepperdine, UCLA? Arizona?
When does the AVCA preseason poll come out?

I like that Kan can potentially be a player that adds a lot of offense (and pass). Because she is so athletic and has some beach experience could definitely be in the top flights.

Look for Long Beach to be a contender this year .. because they are quite deep with talent this year, they may prove to compete with the best of teams.

Any other changes from last year? They do have some good players. Not sure if they are as deep as Hawaii in Beach but will be fun to see how they both do! Stanford will be interesting with Plummer and all the height they have this season.

Barber and Nieto 2. Zoi and Hudson 3. Weiss and Brinke 4. Harward and Sasha 5. Wagners The Bows would rather teach theirs Yoga; they'd be happy with inviting ALL types (for a team of 30+), which tends to create more pilikia; all the while taking instruction under the Kumu hula from a MUCH depleted/defunct Univ of the Pacific. They'll continue to toe the line. Push the envelope, I'd guess, til the NCAA clamps down upon a legal limit for roster size.

This may not be the best thread for LBSU...but since somebody brought them up...
Look for the teams to be something like this:
1) Barber and Nieto 2) Brinke and Harward 3) Pekich and Weiss 4) C Wagner and Hudson 5) M Wagner and Zoi
There are some new players as well that should contend for the top 10 spots, but with a deeper team, some players from last year may have trouble getting playing time. Should be a fun season battling Hawaii and the rest of the Big West! Go Beach!

Could see both Harward and Wagner as indoor setters.
The other thing would be for a Wagner and LBCC former 49er transfer in the DS spots.
