I disagree on the "fan friendliness" etc. of the AVP events; SF & Huntington could not have been more fun, had a better setup etc. Hey, its like anti-Obama people forgetting what '08 was like (free fall;closest to 1929 EVER) and with the AVP, its recent demise and resurrection. The fact that we have a schedule out and a great layout (at least my experience at the two above) is great news. NCAA should grow the women's side, not sure how the men's will fare, but just glad this new AVP is continuing . . . It COULD, be worse :-(

Having gone to SF, NYC, Manhattan, and Huntington, I will agree with Jim.
The events were fan friendly and the stadium courts were well set up - minus maybe lacking enough capacity for the San Fran event having stadium seating on only one sideline.
Vendor interaction was fine in the CA locations, NYC was a bit lacking as the vendors were far from the 3 auxiliary courts where most of the action went down, but certainly less vendors that there used to be on tour.

Court/stadium design & layout. The tour decided they didn't need the team & leader that had been building the venues for decades, about 2 years ago. So now you see what you have, it is not fan friendly, not good for vendor interaction with fans, and many times just plain layed out in a dangerous fashion. How about plywood sign tepees within diving distance of athletes? There have been issues. Another cost factor for the tour with this new venue setup is that, in Chicago at least, it took the roadies significantly longer to construct and deconstruct it. In previous years, Oak Street had been closed for the week of the tournament. The building material would be shipped in on Sunday and the Center Court pretty much would be ready to go by Thursday. This summer, the beach was closed for an additional week. Everything would be taken down by the Wednesday following the tournament at the latest. Elements of the venue remained until the next weekend this summer. Renting the beach for 3 weeks has to be more expensive than for 10 days. Also, the construction crew had to be housed for twice as long. The net result for Chicago fans was that far fewer could actually be seated at Center Court on the day of the final. And the AVP undoubtedly incurred more expenses for beach rental.

Finally got the EVP schedule today so I can try and figure out where we can go. My daughter has club that goes into June (AAU- Orlando) so that cuts down on some potential tourneys. Looking through though the biggest miss I see is there is only one tournament in Milwaukee between USAV, AVP and EVP. You have a huge beautiful beach that was packed for the EVP and 2 USAV events last summer and we get one single event between all 3 organizations. To compound the insult, a large portion of players who played last year cannot this year because that one Milwaukee event is at the exact same time as AAU Nationals for younger age groups. At least 1/3 of the girls who played 14's and under last year play for teams that are headed to Orlando for nationals.
EVP also has an event scheduled down the road in Racine but it is on the same date as Milwaukee's lone USAV event, not very well planned guys! At least none of them were dumb enough to try and go up against Waupaca Boatride
