...just finally sat to watch the whole match. Jazz sweet has LOTSSSSSSS of work to put in before she makes waves at nebraska. She def cant jump.... or just doesnt think she needs to yet.... Cook will have fun working with her because there is some upside their. McClellan looks ready for solid playing time. I know strivins will be on the court though. I went to a few open husker practices and thought a few times that she was the better middle compared to holman. I wonder if holman would squirm if she got moved to RS?. I actually believe Nebraska wouldve been better in 16' if briana went RS .. kadie back to left OH and stivrins MB. Stivrins is pretty elite in practice. Was impressed. I think that wouldve lessoned our vulnerability on out left pin position. And stivrins would be in good strides by the tourney time. They might lost the big 10 early.in the season but i think they would have been a better team then the one h Who.lost in the final.four. But...... cook does know what he is doing better than me. But stivrins is a gem. Interesting notes, bball I'm hoping Sweet was holding something back in the Under Armour match. On a positive note, I thought she displayed a high volleyball IQ last week. She had a nice tip off the block for a kill and also a nice roll shot out of system. Plus, she won the Best Hitter contest with the targets. I agree that she has some upside. Hopefully she can take her play to an Alex Holston level? I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Holman moving RS too. I'll wait until spring/summer when things start smoothing out to get behind anything, but I've been impressed with Bri on the RS this year. Granted, she only had about 10-15 attempts from that position all season, and also, it could be a risk having two freshman MB's. We might need some experience in the middle. I'd be interested in what others think about this move. If this were to happen, then maybe we could redshirt Sweet and Szabo?

Much of Nebraska's success over the past two seasons is directly attributable to the trio of JWO, Maloney and Albrecht providing stellar passing and back row defense. If the Huskers continue to use a similar lineup with one six-rotation pin hitter and DS's for the other two (and assuming Maloney moves into the libero position), they will need someone to step up and fill the 2nd DS position. In my opinion all of the known candidates for this role would be a significant step down from the three primary back row players noted above.
If Albrecht could seize the L2 position and play all the way around, this would solidify serve receive, with her and Maloney on the court together most of the time. This would be especially important if they did choose to go with a true three MB system, as that system would otherwise have some potential deficiencies in serve receive.

Nebraska needs a freshman to step up and make a difference right away. It's good for competition within the team to know they can be pushed by a newcomer and it's good for recruiting to know if you're a stud you have a shot to play right away.

More interesting topic: Dani's replacement. Or more accurately, Chris' replacement since he's Dani's replacement.

He's not putting out his usual feelers. It seems like Cook must have a candidate in mind as things have been quiet. I usually ask Jasonr since he gets dibs being a big time booster but he's out of the country and mostly incommunicado.

I know she only has one season of experience as a volunteer assistant with Pepperdine Men's, but could Kayla Banwarth be in the running?
Any other names being thrown out?

He needs a bigtime recruiter. I know dani has been praised but nebraska has missed some key recruits over the years. Id like to see them in the top 5 recuiting classes every year.

That's a nebulous metric. It's usually circumstantial based on which bluebloods have 5+ scholarships available...or if you're Texas and land 2 top 10 players every year. Since Cook likes to balance classes and pursues quality transfers (at least lately), their ranking might be all over the board but the lineup ends up littered with top 20-25 players broken up over all four classes.

Honestly - I really wish Atherton would get the start... She's faster, more athletic, sets quick/sharp, and has better hands than Kelly Hunter... Not hating on Kelly but I don't think she can set without her twins around her (that she's been playing with for years) and for a setter who fed Malloy the ball (have you seen her stats, oy) more than any hitter this year.... C'mon, know your hitters! Atherton is the quickness the Nebraska needs to keep up because they look so slow under Kelly slow motion ball. THERE I SAID IT. - Someone had to.
Projected Starters: pending no transfers come in
RS: Jazz Sweet OH: Mikaela Foecke OH: Lauren Strivins (Great OH abilities) MB: Briana Holman MB: Chelsea Mclellan S: Kelly Hunter (although I wish it weren't true) L: Kenzie Maloney
DS/OH: Annika Albrecht
Sorry for the following, but not really: Annika doesn't have what it takes to be a starting OH at Nebraska... Maybe at FSU (aka: Melanie Keil) Boender and Reeves look better on the bench... Cute-to-have Nebraska-born players on the team, right?!
k bye.

You raised several legitimate improvements Nebraska needs, but I have an issue with two things.
1. Jazz Sweet, barring significant, and I mean significant physical development, will not start at RS next season. Putting Holman there is interesting since she's still be blocking left sides and she wouldn't have to be as quick off the floor as she does in the middle. I think that approach actually suits her better.
2. Boender and Reeves may not start, but you shouldn't diminish their contributions to the team by calling them cute-to-have. By all accounts I've heard, they are positive parts of the team's chemistry, especially Tiani. If Reeves never takes another swing, she'll still have a better legacy for this program that several multi-year starters I could name.
