Sarah Sponcil transferring from LMU to UCLA. I will miss seeing her as a 6 rotation outside hitter. She has done so much for LMU and I am sad to see her go, but I have no doubt she will be one of the best liberos in the country at UCLA!
Does anyone know if anyone else will be transferring from LMU? We already have Erin Williams and now Sarah Sponcil.

Haven't heard of any others leaving LMU, so they should still have 2 very good setters, an excellent senior libero and some very good hitters, including sophomore OH Slattery. The big loss, besides Sponcil, was losing all of their incoming recruits when Black left. It's nice to see they have added a couple of 6'2 pin hitters. Sponcil's all-around game is almost impossible to replace, but I think they will do ok next year.

Isn't this as much a Beach Volleyball issue with Sponcil? I think she has two more years of eligibility on the sand.

Gonzaga adds a frosh setter to go with two sophomore setters and a junior setter? Hmm...4 setters seems a bit crowded. By the way, Gonzaga's Opp Emmy Allen graduated in December and headed to LSU in January to play beach volleyball. Her team was one of 8 teams to be selected for the national championships last weekend and she played surprisingly well for someone in their first season of beach volleyball. She played at the 1's and 2's positions and won 13 of her last 16 matches after struggling in the first half of the season. That's a pretty quick learning curve for an indoor to beach transition. I wonder if she is hanging around for a final beach season.

This sounds like a quality hire...someone with a ton of experience. What the program needs is stability (and a bunch of recruits who will stick around), and hopefully he will bring some, and get the program back on track.

That must have been a no-brainer selection for Cananda. Gray was an absolute beast OH for BYU. Notice Sarah Chase, rising Junior OH for Saint Mary's listed as a reserve.

Canada has had a lot of success on the men's side at the national level, but not so much on the women's side. They need some help, but I see them improving. Gray to me is a player that has a high ceiling too, not to take anything away from her development at BYU. Canada plays in the FIVB World Grand Prix in Group 2. They open against the only team from Group 1 in 2016 (Germany finished last in Group 1, so they were swapped with Group 2's champion Dominican Republic). Canada finished 1-6 in Group 2 last year at the WGP, only beating Kenya. I will be interested to see Gray on the court. There is good news - at that event listed in September/October is the NORCECA qualification to the 2018 World Championships. The top 6 finishers at that tournament (Which does not include the USA) directly qualify. And Canada will easily finish top 6 there, bunched at the top with Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and (maybe) Mexico. A lot of good experience, no matter what.

USD schedule (switch to 2017-2018 season): www.usdtoreros.com/sports/w-volley/sched/usd-w-volley-sched.htmlUCLA, Hawaii, Marquette, Texas, Utah, and Mizzou in the preseason. WOW. That is some tough scheduling. I always have doubts about how USD does in the preseason with their tough schedules, but they always seem to pull out some impressive wins in the preseason. Hopefully they will do the same this upcoming season!

Hopefully they will do the same this upcoming season! I think San Diego will be okay. UCLA graduated Jordan Anderson who had over 3kps to lead the team. But, they got a huge transfer as Sarah Sponcil should replace Formico, that is a huge get for the Bruins. Hawaii graduated monster point scorer Nikki Taylor, so a lot of questions remain there. Marquette lost a another monster point scorer to transfer (remember Autumn Bailey) as Taylor Louis transfers to Iowa. This makes Marquette look suspect. But they did just get Haak from Miami so I have to reconsider Marquette's potential. They also lose their setter. Texas always a beast. Hard to see a win here. Utah is dangerous - Anae is a senior now. They could make a run in the PAC. Missouri loses Carly Kan, who scored a lot of points and did alot all around. And if anyone is still doubting San Diego, remember they beat the defending national Champion (at Maples Pavilion) without their best player Lisa Kramer! They'll find a surprise win somewhere. They have to stop peaking early, though. They haven't made a ton of noise in the NCAA's, and I thought in 2013 they had a really good chance.

Btw - looking at San Diego's schedule, it looks like they need to be extra careful about their itineraries with Hawaii.
Their match times listed are wrong. San Diego plays UCLA at 445 (Hawaii Time). That's 7:45pm in California. On their schedule, they have it listed as 1:45pm Pacific Time. That would be 10:45am in Hawaii.
They better make sure they are headed in the right direction, Hawaii is three hours behind San Diego. Cuba is three hours ahead of San Diego.
