Just curious about passenger to freight conversions. I get installing a door, but I’ve never seen a photo of a freighter with windows. What happens to the windows? Is it really necessary to cover up all the windows?

Is it really necessary to cover up all the windows? No, it's not "necessary". But it's easy to replace the windows with blanks. We do it all the time in flight test when we want to install through-the-skin test equipment.

Just wondering if you've ever been on one of the engine manufacturers' testbed aircraft. I guess General Electric retired the 747-100 but is still using a 747-400. I also saw Pratt & Whitney's 747SP, but they seem to have mounted a small wing near the front. So Rolls-Royce also uses various retired 747s.

Replacing one engine on a 747 is popular because you still have three others. You also have no issues with space for test instrumentation inside the fuselage.
I had never heard of that little stub wing idea, but I guess that works too.

The way Prart & Whitney and Rolls-Royce state it, that gives it additional clearance and won't require modification of the wing for much heavier engines.

Just curious what kind of discounts there are at aerospace companies? When I interviewed at Raytheon in the 90s I got a packet that indicated their discounts on certain products. They owned Amana (purchased so they could market microwave ovens), so it was possible to buy a refrigerator other appliance and get reimbursed for part of the cost. Also Beechcraft, where they had employee purchase prices, although I wasn't quite sure how they expected most employees to cover even the discounted $400,000 or so price tag on a Beechcraft Bonanza.
I was kind of disappointed that they didn't have a discount on maybe just an inert Sidewinder. That would have been nice to have over my fireplace.

(No, really we just get a discount on stuff at the company retail store, like hats or model airplanes.)

Is there something in aerospace that you would like to work on but I’ve never gotten the opportunity?

Kind of related, but I found this interesting. The pilot seemed to be on a hot mic that caught him saying stuff that he probably wishes he wasn't recorded saying. Something about liberals, Hyundais, and "rolling coal" (intentionally dumping unburned diesel exhaust to annoy people).

I’ve never thought of Hyundai as a liberal thing, maybe I missed the memo?

And Hyundais apparently aren't the macho diesel pickups spewing out unburned diesel soot that he feels manly men with huevos should be driving. Or not enough people with guns.

As far as the hot mic went, any chance that it was his co-pilot intentionally broadcasting it surreptitiously?
I've had people start saying some really crazy stuff thinking that I might be similar thinking, but I generally found what was said to be distasteful or offensive.

After looking it up, I'm just astounded that people intentionally spend money to modify their trucks just to do that. What idiots! Though it doesn't really surprise me. There are far too many pickup truck drivers who go out of their way to act like a-holes.

There are far too many pickup truck drivers who go out of their way to act like a-holes. I have an S2000, which brought me into contact with the Import Car crowd. It has always astounded me that there are people who deliberately install mufflers that don't work and who remove the catalytic converters from their cars, all because they think that having a car that is much louder and more polluting than it should be is somehow cool. So it's not just a pickup truck thing.
