Looks like it would have been easier to ride shotgun in that mission with an actual shotgun, instead of that pistol.

XCOM. Your assault trooper is standing about a meter away from an alien that is about a meter wide and 2.5 meters tall. She fires a shotgun. The computer is telling you 96% chance of a hit.
Miss.
"WTF?! No way could she miss! F*&% this game! Miss?!"
=====
Just a few minutes ago I walked over to the recycling bin with an empty soda bottle. Dropped the bottle from a few inches above the hole in the top of the bin. BOUNCE. The bottle rolled away on the floor.
Me: OK, you win that time, XCOM.

Sleeping Dogs
Hot dang! I've been winning race after race in this game. Five straight so far. (Winning races gives you a particular XP for one type of skill tree -- Face.) I had problems in past playthroughs because I kept crashing into walls, trees, and concrete poles after tight turns. It's as if someone else is inhabiting my body because I no longer make those same mistakes.

Hitman 2: when stealth fails
So I have this "elusive target" to kill and also get some files from her. After some trial and error I realize she's alone in an office. I'm disguised as hotel staff. She can tell I'm not staff, but it won't matter because dead women tell no tales. So I knock her out, then snap her neck. I also grab a key to a safe that she drops.
Then I look all over her suite of rooms and can't find any safe. Finally I pause, go on line and find out the safe is in a security room on the other side of the building. OK, so I knock out a security guard and take his uniform.
Now there are five people in this security room and only one can tell I'm not legit. So I carefully sneak around to the safe, but it's being guarded. I'm not allowed to use the key to open it.
So I think I need a different disguise, and go through a lot of trouble to get a soldier disguise, but it's no good. The two safe guards are soldiers and they know I'm not one of them. So now what?
Well, I say screw this.... I pull out my silenced pistol and shoot all five guards in the room. Then I open the safe and grab the files. Two more guards come in, and I shoot them too. Then I just run out the hotel, down to the exit, and drive away in a motorboat. My score was "0" because I got so many points deducted for non-target kills, but oh well. I did the mission.

My XCOM Long War that I've been playing for more than a month now (they call it "Long War" for a reason) has been going amazingly well. I actually got ahead of the aliens (hard to do) and have been counter-punching almost every move they make. In fact, I've been keeping their resources so low that it has suppressed my own resources (since a lot of what you have to work with for research and crafting is stuff you scavenge from the aliens).
But this game-month they finally punched me right in the jaw.
First they sent a whole series of UFOs at me, that I shot down one by one, and basically I used up almost my entire roster of soldiers clearing them out. Then, at the same time, they launched a terror attack and also attacked my XCOM base. The base defense mission is a PITA -- it's basically a boss-fight. And in order to have a chance, I decided to use a lot of my best soldiers even though they are "fatigued". That means an automatic injury, so I can't use them again for several days. And then this terror mission they game me was just BRUTAL. The whole map was filled with nasty, nasty enemies.
I tried playing it over and over and over, but finally I realized that I simply didn't have the soldiers to win this mission. So I went back to an earlier save and just ignored it. If you don't respond to a terror mission, the aliens automatically conquer that country. But I had to do it. Hopefully when I get enough of my soldiers back, I can invade their enemy base and get the country back again.
(The plus to this is that invading an enemy base gives you a ton of valuable loot -- but it's one of the hardest missions in the game.)

Many times, I just want to storm in and just kill people. Yeah, it's messy and not very "strategic" but I just want to get the mission done. Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is a really really fun game but I'd say 90% of its main missions are the stealth variety where, if someone sees you, the mission automatically fails. I hate those types of missions. Very stressful. Luckily, all the side missions and ongoing fort liberations are not of this type and you can be as messy as you want.

My wife will be out of town for a couple of weeks in November so I desperately need to buy a new game, preferably open world, that will take a long time to complete and totally fun. And on sale. Hope PSN comes through in the next two weeks. I will be playing pretty much non-stop from morning to late night, in between doggy walking. May have to wear a diaper.

I stopped reading as soon as it mentioned the Edith Finch game. I have nothing against the Edith Finch game (I've seen it for sale on the PSN), but ironically, reading the article was a real grind. Some repetitive tasks are actually quite therapeutic -- and fun. It depends on the activity. You unlock skills in Horizon Zero Dawn, Sleeping Dogs, and Dying Light, for example, and practice them in the open world so that you can perfect their execution. The game has to give you many many opportunities to practice those skills. Some games don't, e.g., Rise of the Tomb Raider. It may be grindy in some games but not in the games I mentioned above. I could do the Death from Above skill all day long in Dying Light.

Sleeping Dogs
Done with my 4th playthrough. Did almost everything -- side missions, collectibles, etc. The only thing that was a little annoying is the turn-by-turn directions. If you set a waypoint on your map, the game will give you turn-by-turn directions, with visible arrows indicating which way you should turn at every intersection while you're driving or on foot. The problem is, the game will only give you turn-by-turn directions on only streets and only legal directions. So, if your waypoint is inside a building, mall, or some cave, the game will only get you to the street adjacent the building, mall, or cave. Not inside as there are no streets inside. For example, if your waypoint is the Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island, the game will get you to the street right outside the harbor in Manhattan. The rest, you're on your own.
Also, it will only give you legal directions. If your waypoint is just 10 feet away on the other side of a one way street and if that street is one way toward you, the game will not tell you to drive through that one way street because it's illegal. It will give you a circuitous route that may require you to circle several blocks just so you won't break any traffic laws.

Shadow of Mordor
Started this game again. LOL! One of the best hand-to-hand combat games, better than Sleeping Dogs because, you know, my character has amped powers that allow him to make superhuman moves.
I don't think I can ever get tired of this game.

mln59re. Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 They're both good games with good gameplay design. However, they're both linear. Lots of restrictions. My biggest beef is that just as you unlock weapons and loadouts, you don't get a lot of opportunities to use them. Both games are way too short. Also, there's no such thing as skill trees. You start with one basic skillset and it's the same throughout the game. I know they both got great reviews but they don't compare to the great games I've been playing recently, e.g., Horizon Zero Dawn, Dying Light, Shadow of Mordor, Sleeping Dogs, Borderlands series. So, don't blame me if you end up hating them.
