Sokolova has to be one of the most complete player of all time. She played middle blocker at the 99 world cup, opposite at the 2000 olympics and now outside hitter at this olympics. GReat player but still without a major title although I am pretty sure if she had played for Russia in the 02 world championship, Russia would have won

She can play all positions (except setter) and play all of them well. Russia in 2002 was a good enough team to win the WCH even without her. She certainly is a player who every coach would want on her team.

Sure, Russia was really good enough to win in 2002 but they did not. They lost twice to USA in that world Championship with lopsided fifth set scores. Sokolova would have been the difference maker. IT is really too bad that Russia could not capitalise on Cuba's situation after 2000 with the retirement of the veterans and the defection of Aguero. Yet at the moment Sokolova and Elena Vass had trouble with Karpol and did not play for Russia. Hence Russia is still without a major title since 90 world championship.
