Oh yeah: Adams is overrated? That's one of the silliest comments I've heard in a long time. And I don't know how you could say Seilhammer was a "surprise."

Adams hit .200 and had 10 kills against Minnesota. I know everyone has their bad matches but I've seen her before and have determined that she's tall, thats about it. She didn't even get a block up on about two thirds of the Minnesota attacks and the Gophers don't have a quick offense. I'm sorry but I would call that overrated.

Tomato, Tomahto. Fair enough.
On another topic, I have to say I'm not a Gentil fan (and I'm not saying this just to counter the Adams comments). To me, Zartman is the better player, and there are a lot of other liberos out there that I think are outstanding as well.
Kelly Bowman is the real deal. Talk about a gamer, she's just money.

I'm a bigger fan of Zartman than Gentil, as well. Not only do I appreciate the playing style of Zartman more (and not the out-of-system style that Gentil plays), but I think Chrissie is more accurate of a passer and a bigger influence on how her team performs. She was named UCLA's MVP for 2003.
As far as the Adams' argument goes, I cannot understand why teams don't take advantage of her weaknesses, but I have to admit, she is VERY deceptively quick on the back slide, and hits the ball well there.

Anybody who saw Gentil play last weekend (or previously, for that matter) and says that he/she is "not a fan" or make a point of saying Zartman is "better" has issues with Gentil that are not volleyball-related.
I am continually amazed at these comments. What the bleep does she have to do?? 37 digs against USC! 17 real points on her serve!
As for the Idahoser, he's an idiot. We all know that.
(And just so I'm not overly vague. SPECIFICALLY, these folks seem to "not be Gentil fans" because she is not a Zartman blonde. It's pathetically transparent. There are way too many people on this forum who judge players by how they fit into pre-conceived notions about how a player should look or play.)

I concur... I've seen Gentil play twice live and 2 times on TV/PC, and she is the REAL DEAL. Heck, if she was on our national team we might have medaled (sp???). I think she is absolutely amazing and I'd be willing to bet any coach in the country would be THRILLED to have her on his/her team. B

I'm sick of the term real deal. That word is overrated. Anyhow, I really hope that USC's setters improve big time over the season. I can't think of a championship team that didn't have great setters.

I am biased because Zartman does play in the Pac-10, but when I think of current collegiate players who I would chose on a Dream Team, Chrissie Zartman would be my number one choice for the libero. This has nothing to do with Gentil's looks or what not. I've just had an opportunity to see Zartman play more. That's not to say that Gentil is not a great player; she is and she should get All-American recognition, as should Zartman. Both also have great serves. But I think I would just pick Zartman over Gentil (who I have seen play once or twice) just because of the familiarity factor. Both are outstanding liberos, though each play their own different game. Nothing wrong with that.

Well - I'm looking at my Pac-10 weekly release, and it has the returning career leaders in several categories, including total blocks. Adams (entering her senior season) is 2nd; Adams has 6 inches over the player who's 1st in career blocks.

Nothing wrong with that. I have no problem with this. I don't have a problem with people who think Zartman is better (although I think playing MB v. LB makes it a difficult comparison). I, too, think Zartman is the Bomb. It just seems like their point, most of the time, is that Gentil is not even in her league. And that's just plain wrong. I just take exception to the folks who claim Gentil is "over-rated" or is bad for team chemistry or is selfish or blah blah blah. I wonder WHY people say such things? She is doing exactly what the coaching staff wants her to do, and Minnesota has become a top 10 program since Paula arrived. It ain't a coincidence. And just so I'm clear: it also isn't ALL Paula. She is playing with some terrific players, all of whom get better from year to year--maybe even from match to match.

I'm not saying Gentil is overrated. That's not my point. I like the way Zartman plays the game, her style, more than Gentil. Gentil is a great defensive player, there's not doubt about it, but I like Zartman's style more. I like Davis more than Gentil, too.

Any idea why Mick doesn't have Seilhamer serve for Adams?
