This team is long on athletic ability and very short on skill right now. Injuries to Erica Chidester were very evident last night as she had a cortisone shot in her shoulder(hitting arm) just 48 hours ago and couldn't even swing last night. Rosie Lewis is probably out for the year(end of career IMHO) with stress fractures in her back! Uhart, not sure why she didn't play. Miramontes was terrible last night and Kroneberger needs to find a seat on the bench(permanently) and let one of our two incoming freshmen play backrow, preferably Duggins cause Sarah sucks. Setting is still very questionable. Alexis Crimes is the real deal and if our setter could set her the ball in the appropriate place she would be pretty awesome as she jumps out of the gym. All in all, WE SUCKED LAST NIGHT! Very ugly volleyball and there is no question that this team has no where to go but up,,,,,,ditto for our coaching staff by the way! I'm just telling it like it is!

Yeah, for the first 4 games, we were horrid...
No doubt about that at all... But it was expected...
Keep in mind the injuries, the brand new players, and of course, you'd expect sloppiness...
Erika Chidester DID NOT EVEN SWING, Literally... She would literally push the ball over the net every time they set her...
But even in the ugliness, there were spots of greatness...
Alexis Crimes is the real deal... She's raw, yeah, but that's expected... She's VERY athletic, hangs in the air for a long time, and is very active on the net... Very fun to watch... she works very hard, and that's what everyone loves to see! I'd expect her to be a star soon...
Heather Hetzer came in slow, but ended the night well... She has hops and will be fine in time...
we'll see how much better we get as the season unfurls...
But for you crap talkers, be disappointed, because we were expecting a bad match...
It's basically a brand new starting line up...
Natalie Uhart didn't even play...
And on a positive note, there were A LOT of people in the pyramid last night for a first match!
GO BEACH!!!

I am curious about some of these evaluations. I was at the match and my perspective was that with two new (literally) players in the line up there is bound to be a learning curve. Ericka obviously was not going to be able to hit, why did Jillian keep setting her? Heather H. just needs some time, she will get her timing together. Alexis looked good, she was relaxed and looked like she belonged out their. She wasn't playing "scared" as some others are prone to do. Her blocking was a great thing to see, we have not had that for a while. How was Miramontes playing "terrible". She had 20 kills on 44 atempts, hitting percentage .318, 4 blocks, 8 digs, 4 assists (and this with rotating out for backrow). I know the match was sloppy at times, but there is a lot of energy and fight in this team and they played together. It seems like we are still rebuilding, the team is very young. All the transfers and players quitting left a lot of gaps. If this team can build on each match, they should be able to do well.

I agree with VBweit very much on many points... I was definitely wondering why Jillian kept setting Erika... Obviously, she was not able to swing because of that shoulder that was operated on... But Jillian kept on setting, and she kept on just pushing the ball over... Absolutely, there was bound to be learning curve... and that was exactly what we saw... Again though, you're right ... Alexis wasn't playing scared like some of the others... She was out there, active, swinging away as much as she could with all those bad sets, blocking, and just being really really ACTIVE... That's definitely something we haven't seen in a while... Not to mention, Alexis was probably the most impressive during hitting lines... It's funny how Brian talked in the Press Telegram about game speed and how she would handle it... The funny thing is, she seems more used to the speed of the game than some of the veteran players! She's out there fighting... I liked that very much... I think Heather will be just fine... She just started yesterday... At times, she was bombing away just fine... She'll be fine... I too wonder why they say Robyn did bad... I thought she was probably one of our go to hitters last night... She'll be just fine... All in all, they can do alright... The 5th game looked like they finally started getting it together... Blocking, hitting, everything... And yes, this team does have some fight in them... They fought through some long rallies, and had some pretty good defense I thought... Pretty scrappy... I think we'll be just fine... Plus Natalie Uhart wasn't even playing... And I do think they need to move positions and take Erika out if she can't hit... GO BEACH!!!

It seemed to me that Northeastern was blocking well and the 49'ers were not challenging the block. I had to leave at the start of the 4th game, so I probably missed the niners best vb of the night.
Crimes was quick, blocked well. When her and Jillian get the timing down, watch out.
I though Jillian was setting to tight to the outside. Heather's first jump serve of her collegiate career was almost an ace!

Oh, I almost forgot about Heather's jump serve! Heather's cousin and I were talking about how very very nice her jump serve was all night! Weird seeing a Libero serve... But in her case, it's nice... GO BEACH!!!
