Wow. When my daughter was going through the recruiting process, architecture is the one degree that coaches said absolutely did not mesh with the time demands of college volleyball. Best of luck to her. Sure did enjoy watching her play.

This is disappointing from a NT perspective. Karsta was absolutely amazing when I saw her in person. She shredded a PSU team that won the National Championship that year, even though UCLA lost that day. I thought for sure she would be a shoe -in for the national team eventually. But you have to respect the priorities that individuals set. Good luck to her. You must have watched a different match against PSU. She had a good but not great match. The PSU team hitting percentage was higher than her individual percentage.

Karsta is an excellent player, and she was devastating during her senior year at UCLA. I'm surprised that she is now attending USC, isn't that a bit of a slap for UCLA? I expect they have an architectural program, but maybe not. Too bad she doesn't consider acting, she's and Jennifer Laurence could easily be sisters.

Not uncommon for UCLA students/athletes to end up at USC for grad school. I was one of those students. USC's architecture program is one of the best.

Darn. I hope Lowe gets the itch to come back. Super talented but I guess that's nothing if you don't have that burning desire to compete.

Lowe was the only reason USA had a chance in the 5th set against Serbia

I think Karsta is good enough that she can afford to take up to the first 2 years off from the USA/Pro in this quad if she needs to - as long as she keeps herself in 'volleyball' shape.

What grad degree is she working on? Architecture. So, when you say she's getting a graduate degree in architecture, are you talking about M.Arch? Or is she pursuing the basic B.Arch? If so, the B.Arch is not a graduate degree; it's your basic 5-year degree after completing requirements at an architecture school. She must've gotten a degree in something other than architecture to be pursuing an M.Arch (which doesn't require a B.Arch), which is a 3-4 year program.

The bigger concern is this. In the past year, Lowe, Kreklow, Hagglund, Vansant have all left the national team gym and retired at a young age.

All of those I believe are 24 and under. Perhaps they would rather not have to live overseas to make a living playing volleyball. Or maybe they'd rather do "real life" things like work a more regular job and have their own family. Just throwing that out there.
