You are trying to paint JoePa as innocent of all wrong doing. JoePa would have felt equally at home as a catholic Bishop or Cardinal

Interesting, you wouldn't think there would need to be a petition. Did the AAU previously HAVE tolerance - they let known offender coaches/officials participate?

One last interesting parallel of RB and Penn St cases. An early poster (VbShrink I believe) couldn't get all the way on board against Butler because of a number of well thought out reasons. One was that Illinois let him adopt a child. You know you else was allowed to adopt a child? Sandusky! Yikes

Mrs Butler: Did your husband sleep with players he was coaching, regardless of age? Has he ever admitted he abused his authority he had over them as a coach? Has he ever apologized to these players?

This is a form letter. It's been posted word-for-word on other sites. In short, it is NOT a response.

What are the two sides? A truly awful side and a slightly less awful side?

I am responding to this post. Mrs Butler: Did your husband sleep with players he was coaching, regardless of age? Has he ever admitted he abused his authority he had over them as a coach? Has he ever apologized to these players? azvb was under the impression Cheryl Butler personally posted what you quoted. Also, I ask that you not post in the same thread under multiple usernames. Thank you.

What are the two sides? A truly awful side and a slightly less awful side? It's complicated--like most things in life. Criminal? --impossible for anyone who wasn't involved to know at this point. Unethical? --clearly. But some of those who attack Butler have their own agendas. SPRI makes a lot of money and a lot of people would love just a piece of that for themselves and their own clubs. Some are jealous of the club's success. And then the other side of the moral issue--what of forgiveness? At what point do we forgive sins against us--or does that require the sinner (Butler in this case) to repent or ask for forgiveness before that happens. I don't know who is whom on VCT, but the internet makes everything easy to be black/white/absolute. Life does not work that way. If he was a pedophile though, isn't that a mental illness, and if so, wouldn't he have done this more than "just" the three times?

I don't think he was a pedophile. So I'm on THAT side, whatever THAT is. I think this was a power play. But that's possibly worse, if not outright rape.
And, yes, I think forgiveness can't precede an admission. (And, no, I don't know the technical definition of pedophilia.) Attacking one of your (alleged?) victims is not a great first step.

If he was a pedophile though, isn't that a mental illness, and if so, wouldn't he have done this more than "just" the three times? Well, see, the problem there is that pedophilia is actually a disorder in which adults have sexual impulses toward prepubescent children. By the time kids are high school age, usually none of them are prepubescent. So being attracted to (or acting on that attraction with) high school students is not actually pedophilia. It may be illegal (depending on the local laws), it may be unethical (depending on the situation), but it's not a mental illness.

So any discussion of pedophilia is 100% irrelevant from the issue of Rick Butler. It's purely a Penn State hissy-fit situation.
