I am not a fan of the current AVP. This is just a branding organization try to sell the sport for profit, not to grow the sport. I was a fan of the AVP when it was actually the Association of Volleyball Professionals, which as a corporation, it is no long such.
This gold series is meaningless... they already planned on paying more for the 3 stops anyway. They just added a name and now more points. Why is getting paid slightly more money worth more points when the same teams are playing??
At the last 2 stops, I saw the same setup they setup at the FIVB.. spent a lot of money on a giant video board and digital banners... for who??? It's like if we really "pretty up" the event, then people will think its a pro sport?
If the AVP spent half the money it spends on its tour stop setup on it AVPnext events, we might have a sport growing, and not need to force a 4 year contract on players that cannot get paid enough to live on....

To your 1st point. Not sure who owning it really matters, when it was public, it failed miserably. Donald Sun picked it up off the scrap heap when no one else could/would. 2nd point. last year the final 2 stops were larger draws, I see nothing wrong with getting more points for more games played to get say a 9th. 3rd point. You need a professional product, the last 2 years the changes have been positive for attendees. FYI, it is a pro sport. 4th point. The AVPNext is working, the points are being used and are being valued as such. I like that the AVP has basically franchised their name out, attaching the name to a tournament increases the tournament draws. The AVP is awarded by more teams in the Qs, attracting more people to the tournaments.

Why would AVP spend half the money it spends on the tour stops on AVP Next? Every previous version of AVP Next, whether it was AVP Young Guns, the Wilson Series, etc. accomplished nothing. I remember a 57 year old Ihor winning AVP Young Guns in Maryland and marveling at how dumb the concept was. The Gold Series is a great idea. Every sport has special events that mean more, it helps create interest. Its why the old Gold Crown was awesome. Id like to see a shootout format with only top teams, but just making them special is a step forward. Why does everyone get more excited or Manhattan than Chicago, even though Chicago is historically a better event from a fan perspective? Its because its Manhattan and the traditions that go with special events make it great

So if I'm understanding this correctly, KW gets credit for the Gold Series because by not getting her $150,000 (or whatever it was) AVP appearance fees from now on, the AVP saves money and thus winnings $ go up for the players. KW falls on her sword for the good of the game? That's her strategy? She just sued the avp for unpaid compensation. Saving the avp money is not on her mind at all. I apologize if I've misunderstood. I haven't seen anything were KW has given up anything. She probably believes she and Leonard have put the pressure on Mr. Sun to up his game. That very well may be, or at least it's the official byline they're going with. To be fair, its a lot better than "Left AVP, no one followed, can't find a partner, and Donald Sun hasn't been happier since".

I have no problem with the Gold Series, but first you can develop it two days before the first event. This should have been advertised from the beginning. Secondly, increase the draw to 32 teams and make it like a grand slam or major event.

This Gold Series announcement is just a gimmick to continue to play cat & mouse with KW & Leonard. In the end, I predict that Kerri will return to the AVP, probably in 2019 with a partner she feels she can medal with in Toyko. I don't think she will have a choice unless another league is formed. I think they will they will need more money than Leonard & Al can muster up to form a league AND attract decent talent.
A couple of reasons why the trouble finding a partner....1. Players are scared off because of her shoulder issues...2. Kerri wants what she wants & expects greatness from herself & her partner. There is not a player in the USA that has the work ethic that Kerri has. Man or Women. If you know of one, I'd love to hear it. Yes, all these athletes work very hard, but nothing like KW. Like her or hate her, she will give a partner all she's got. But she expects the same.
Nicole Branagh= No where near what Kerri is expecting

My thinking is that the other side was coming out with a big announcement and wanted to beat them to the punch. This rivalry that appears to be forming between the AVP & the NVL/Armato/KW doesn't appear like it's a good thing for this sport. But people might just continue to be interested in the drama of it all.

Also no one is scared off from playing with Kerri due to her shoulder.

Why would they put more money into AVPNext when they can let groups call their tournaments AVPNext, and make the AVP money through memberships. I don't see the point of putting any more money into it either.
