Emily and Brittany b###ch slap Agatha and Duda 15 and 17. Wow! Thats a team that seems to be on the way up Yeah...Walsh & Branagh wont get past these two in a country quota...Day & Brit are playing well and have been playing all year. KW hasn't played since Feb. & Nicole hasn't played in forever.

Yikes, Pedlow/Schachter spanked Casey and Theo in the game for 3rd in the pool, 13 & 14.
Not sure what is going on with this team, I thought this was going to be the 2nd best USA team. Did anyone really watch them in NYC? would like to understand what is going on.
The other 2 men's teams won their match to get to the elim bracket.

Looking at the elim bracket for the women, Hochevar / Day have a good shot at making a medal match. Sweat/Summer side of the bracket is loaded.

I was looking at them after the NYC event, thinking they were off to an awful start to the year but they have beat some really good teams. Last two events definitely lousy though. No excuse for a loss like this

Can anyone simplify the reasoning for having only 2 matches in pool play? Makes no sense. In pool G poland finishes 3rd and Germany finishes 4th but Germany doesn't get the chance to play poland to beat them to finish 3rd?

Can anyone simplify the reasoning for having only 2 matches in pool play? Makes no sense. In pool G poland finishes 3rd and Germany finishes 4th but Germany doesn't get the chance to play poland to beat them to finish 3rd? It's really a 4 team bracket, not a pool. First round is 1vs4 and 2vs3. Then the winners play each other for 1st and 2nd place, and the losers play for 3rd and 4th place. I like it so far, it completely eliminates useless pool play matches, and eliminates the point ratio tie-breaker. Which was ridiculous, because under the old rules if Germany did play Poland and won by only a few total points, or somehow won the match in 3 sets but scored fewer total points, they could still be eliminated by point ratio. The FIVB dropped the head to head tie breaker a couple years ago in an effort to keep teams from "forfeiting" pool play matches once they had their spot locked up, which usually happened once a team won their first two matches. The point ratio tie-breaker, in theory, would require a team to keep playing to either earn the 3rd spot, or maintain the 1st spot which comes with a first round bye in the elimination bracket. Unfortunately, as stated before, there were situations where two teams could finish 1-2 in pool play but the team that won their head-to-head match was eliminated on point ratio. Happened more than you think. (Also BVBInfo.com doesn't always list the final pool ranking correctly since they calculate their standings on Matches Won, Sets Won, then Points Won.)

US men going down disappointingly in the first round to underwhelming opponents. I do like that new format with the explanation from graham. Much appreciated.
