Trouble with having Center Court fill up is if you get there early to get a good seat you are basically stuck, can't hit the outer courts when there is a lousy match on center court

And when you are stuck in the stadium you can see live scoring on AVP site (which is helpful - especially on side courts without scoreboards) but you have no idea when future matches start. I wanted to make sure I could get to see Drost/Frishman play in their match to get into the semis. I tweeted AVP asking them when it was starting, but, unsurprisingly, got no response. It ended up working out but I wish AVP would think about the in-person fans and post courts and locations on the app so I don't have to trudge over to the boards every 30 minutes.

I miss the big tourney board AVP events used to have. In Poland they had a crummy plastic banner behind a grandstand that was occasionally filled in, but the only way to see it was to abandon your court and go look. Now that every court has an electronic scoreboard flash scores from other courts now and them

I talked with Donald Sun about his live scoring app at Huntington and he kind of agreed: It's INDISPENSABLE when AT a tourney or at home....I'm not kidding, this thing works AS PROMISED: Click on it and you've got EVERY COURT with EVERY "UPDATED" score and the court the teams are playing on (Winning team is highlighted before moving onto the next game scheduled for that court). What I do is this: Bring up avp.com in Chrome, then get to live scoring, add a shortcut on your phone's home screen & voila, just tap it at any time and it will give you scores in real time (even the court you're watching will be no more than a second or two behind, if at all! I'm curious how many know about this? I think the AVP should be handing out some small flyer that depicts this process (or similar easy one) so it gets used. People think I'm "god" at the events and its just using this part of the website...I mean do you REALLY want to be watching game 1 at 17-9 or game 3 at 12-11...with the app, you slip right over to the 12-11 game and then return...It WORKS....

Well, almost as advertised....in Hermosa some matches didn't get covered by the Live Scoring, and some still don't have Recaps or Stats except the final scores. But you're absolutely right, it's a terrific addition whether you're home or at the site! One word of caution though, if you're watching the stream and switch over to check somebody's stats, you can get a spoiler on what the score will be a couple of plays ahead of the stream's time delay......

Maybe I'm missing something, but viewing the live scoring web page on your mobile device isn't really an "app" in any true sense. Viewing the current scores is minimally functional, but trying to navigate to the upcoming schedule, previous results, or brackets pages on a mobile device is extremely painful if not impossible. The desktop version is better but still not great and takes way too many clicks to find what you are looking for. It's a minor quibble but you'd expect more from an organization run by a technology executive.

I usually roll with AVPScoring on one tab & BVBinfo on another, usually winner's bracket Friday & contender's bracket Saturday for optimal coverage. And yes, men's matches.

Live scoring worked well all weekend for me - most of the time I parked on court 4 since I had a halfway decent spot, and there was no electronic scoreboard so I used my phone constantly. What I wish they would do is update the brackets and schedule more consistently so I can plan the next court I want to go to and things like that. Less important most of the time - Friday for instance I can take a photo of the board in the morning and be set til 2 or so, but once things change at q quick pace, it is a little harder to manage. Manhattan will be even harder, with 32 teams.

Speaking of #4, hard to watch with viewing on only two sides thanks to courts on both sides. I know they had all kinds of matches there but people come to see the pros and there were numerous men's matches that were hard to see given Hermosa crowds. Hope Manhattan is better laid out.

Huge AVP fan but the court layout at Hermosa was horrible at least on Friday.. Way more room on the AVP first courts then there were on courts 4 and 5. In fact they were removing people from watching set 3 of the Partains-Samuels Brunstig barn burner so they could start a 12u match. Court 5 you could only watch from 1 side of the court. It needs to be fixed for Manhattan.

After that match, as people left I snagged a spot in the northeast corner and didn't leave the rest of the day. Wasn't ideal but I did see some decent matches.

"It's INDISPENSABLE when AT a tourney"
So you need your phone at the tournament to find out what is happening at the tournament? Something is just wrong about that..

goudey: I hear ya, but YES...Unless you have another organic method of being at 4 courts simultaneously...When you catch yourself at Center Court for game 1 of a "blowout" and then hear the roar on Court 2 in a 12-13 nailbiter coming to and end, you can "nod to the stars" about my recommendation ;-)
