He knows what he's doing. Great eye for potential, guys like Austin Wilmot get picked up from the D courts and he teaches them to be really solid players All this is very true. Want to clarify that I don't say this to take away from Kniffin, just an added bonus. But... the idea of living on the beach in Orange County makes recruiting just a tad bit easier as well. Honestly, who wouldn't want to play at UCI with the culture they have there? well honestly, you could say exactly the same thing about usc, ucla, pepp, ucsb, hawaii. uci doesnt have an advantage recruiting over those schools. byu on the other hand... they stun me on how they can constantly recruit to a school that honestly, a lot of college aged kids would not want to go. the midwest schools are grabbing midwest size but west coast ball handling. that actually has paired well for schools like lewis, loyola, psu, tOSU, and occasionally ball state/ipfw.

If he follows his brother's path of development, this kid could be nasty good Kniff at UCI is attracting some great talent. Stadick in 2016 (Top Recruit), Schneidmiller in 2017 (Top 10 recruit), Jonny Bowles (Top Recruit) coming in for 2018 and now it seems Barsemian is a pretty solid score. He’s got a long way to go

The advantage schools like UCI and Long beach have is that they are way cheaper options than other california schools for the california players. That is mostly why they recruit well, kids aren’t getting anything close to full offers. All this is very true. Want to clarify that I don't say this to take away from Kniffin, just an added bonus. I’m curious (and I’m bored right now too lol) as to who people think the top 2019 recruit is as of right now... For me I would say either Solan or Knight

For me I would say either Solan or Knight As someone who has watched solan all year, I can say with confidence that he is the most overrated kid in the class of 2019. He has 0 volleyball iq, as he just swings at every ball he gets, has no control, and seems to be a bit of a headcase. I saw on multiple occasions at JO’s where he would argue with the refs about plays that were called correctly. If a top player in his class gets consistently benched for someone that no one knows about (and frankly the kid has done better than solan in the few matches that I watched), then there are some issues lmao. I hope he proves me wrong.

I hope he proves me wrong. You bring up fair points. I think he does try to take a rip at most balls (for better or for worse), but IMO the aggressiveness he shows on OOS or poor sets is good, though he doesn’t need to go 100% at every ball. There’s a difference between “volleyball IQ” and tipping most OOS balls. Yes at JO’s he wasn’t the best I must agree, but also I wouldn’t say he was getting consistently good sets. I mean with USA Volleyball at Norceca he was overall very solid offensively both back and front row and showed he can score OOS, off of inside sets, and at the service line. I definitely think Knight is very good, so is Hartley and Tangutur. But Solan, while obviously he has much room to grow, is still a very physical and promising prospect. The dude can rip the ball, serve well, block, and his defense is improving. I think part of the “headcase” at JO’s can be attributed to playing with worse players (which still doesn’t justify a bad attitude)... his teammate skills and mentality can improve, but with USA I didn’t see that problem.

I would take Lamp over Tangutur at any time, playing at 18’s level and carrying his team in gold bracket wasn’t easy task.Lamp/Knight ,Karlous and Solan are top prospects in the class.I would include Hartley in the mix because this kid is phenomenal team player and talented setter/hitter/server.There are many talented kids in that class and it is hard to predict who will develop the most in the next year. I agree about Lamp. He was practically automatic during the matches I watched at BJNCs.

Scott isnt even the best oppo in the west, akin akinwumi is. That kid RIPS the ball. I wouldnt go as far as say he is the best in the class, but scott is definately far from it. You also cannot ignore OH Dayne Chalmers in the conversation for top recruit. Much like Tompkins, he was named All-Tournament for 18 Open, however his team was much more successful. Definitely a top 5 recruit for sure in the class of 2019.

I would include Will Rottman in the conversation. He is outstanding. Lamp, Knight, Rottman, Tangutur, Chalmers, and Hartley are all top OH. Of this group I believe only Knight has committed (UCLA). It will be fun to see who grabs the others.

I didn’t say that, I said an attitude issue may have been from playing with worse players than USA for instance (which doesn’t justify his perceived bad attitude, I’m just offering a suggestion). And I just think his hitting was subpar at JO’s, it’s not like he was trash in all other aspects of the game. I think at times you could tell the difference in the way he conducted himself and the way he played if you watch him at JO’s with his club team vs. with his USA teammates. Though yes if he was a top recruit he should be able to be lights out regardless of who his teammates are
