I'll take a page from ay2013 's book and start the B1G thread. Crazy, because there are some athletes that won't be All-B1G, but might be All-Americans. I'll use the same totals per team that the conference used last year, but it's varied in the past. Here we go: Big Ones: | All-B1G (18): | HM (14): | All-Frosh (7): | POY: Washington | Washington | Robinson | Rettke | SOY: Hunter | Lee | Abbott | Hilley | DPOY: Washington? | Thelen | Lohman | Samedy | FOY: Samedy | Hunter | Hilley | Pittman | COY: Cook | Holman | Evans | Robinson |
| Foecke | Toliver | Sweet |
| Bastianelli | Minarick | Drechsel |
| Poulter | Schirmer |
|
| Cuttino | Albrecht |
|
| Atkinson | Welsh |
|
| Garvelink | Prince |
|
| Bailey | Louis |
|
| Skojdt | Olsen |
|
| Rettke | Hughes |
|
| Williams |
|
|
| SSS |
|
|
| Samedy |
|
|
| Hart |

Do you actually think Rettke won't get FOY? I don't mean that in a sarcastic/condescending way, just surprised based off how many FOW she has won

It's my personal opinion that Samedy is the better player. She isn't 6'8", plays six rotations, is averaging nearly 3 digs per set, is averaging over 4 kills per set and hitting over .300, passes occasionally (or did), has really nice blocking numbers, and serves well.
Rettke might be leading the conference in service errors. Her kill and block numbers are obviously really impressive, but I think Samedy is just the better player. She should've earned more FOW awards during the season than she did. Plus, I think Minnesota is having a much, much better season than Wisconsin is, despite starting younger, less experienced athletes.

I would be surprised if Drechsel got All-Frosh over Orr, Witte, Gruensfelder or even her teammate Pritchard.

Rettke is a lock for FOY.

The coaches vote for the end of year awards, right? Whereas the weekly awards are chosen by the Big Ten media people? So the number of FOW awards Rettke’s gotten doesn’t really mean anything when it comes to predicting FOY.

I will admit that I watched Wisconsin playing Illinois last Friday with a jaundiced eye, since I have a lot of misgivings concerning what is going on in the Badger's volleyball program and particularly with the B1G allowing Tiffany Clark to play this season at UW and not lose a year of eligibility per conference rules. I have two thoughts on Rettke after watching her play in person. One is that she is a very gifted player. However, the second thought is that perhaps Rettke's effect on her Badger teammates may not be totally positive. As a freshman newcomer to the Badger team, Rettke maybe should have dialed her enthusiasm back a bit, and let the seniors on the team and upper classmen take the lead. I am not sure the B1G does Wisconsin a favor by almost always anointing Rettke Freshman of the Week, as well as even anointing her Player of the Week in a week Wisky went 1-1.
Also, where is Illinois' libero, Brandi Donnelly, on these lists. Also, to my mind Jordyn Poulter is the Setter of the Year. There is not another setter in the B1G who elevates the rest of her teammates the way Poulter does every match. Her first two seasons at Illinois, Poulter was always a steady setter, and was asked to make lemonade (hittable sets) out of lemons (poor passes) every match. Under the tutelage of former U.S. men's team setter, Chris Tamas, Poulter is not only the best setter in the B1G, but I suspect in the country.
I have two choices for Coach of the Year. First of all, to prove I am open-minded, I would be happy if Purdue's coach, Dave Shondell were chosen COY. However, my personal favorite and most deserving (all things considered) is Illinois' coach, Chris Tamas. What he has done with the Illini is remarkable. The sum of the parts in this Illinois team he inherited, is so much better than the individual parts. And, every returning Illini that gets playing time is demonstrably improved from last season. The difference between last season's team under a different coach, and this season's team under Coach Tamas continues to amaze me.

Washington doesn't play six rotations either.

Oye. I wish Co FOY was a thing. Samedy & Rettke are both so special. In 3 years (probably sooner) we all will be here in this exact same spot having the exact same convo for POY, LOL.
I would add Witte OR Gruensfelder to the all freshman list. Both are fantastic.

And for the record - while the homer in me wants Rettke to win FOY, I will acknowledge that Samedy is really darned impressive. The Gophers wouldn't be where they were without her. And I agree that Rettke's service errors don't help her case.
The 6 rotation comparison seems to carry more weight when you are comparing OH to OH than OH to MB - MBs aren't expected to play six rotations.
I don't think anyone will argue against the statement that Rettke is the strongest freshman MB in the conference, and Samedy is the strongest freshman pin hitter. Now we've moved on from best of breed to best in show, as it were, and that's where the comparison becomes harder because the roles are different.
It'll be interesting to see who the coaches choose.

My Picks: Big Ones:POY: Lee SOY: Hunter DPOY: Washington FOY: Rettke - or/Samedy COY: Cook - Coaching Staff turnover, and all those Frosh - Great Job! * For the 'All-Frosh' Team - Re: NE I would have Stivrins.

I apologize if this comes off as a silly question but are these awards just based on conference play only or the entire season's body of work?

Based solely on numbers, Rettke is first or second team AA. She is the MB that anyone, including PSU, MN, WA, Stanford, TX and FL, would be starting. Hard to see her not being Big FOY. More kills on far fewer attempts. Controls matches and is THE offensive option for this team, single-handedly carrying them through three rotations. Nice try, Shhhh, but SHHHHHHHH!

Easy now, no need to get worked up about this. They are by far the two most talented Freshmen in the BIG with qualifying marks for both of them. Samedy has great numbers, but she has hit above .300 against only two of the top teams in the BIG. For a RS, that's good but not exceptional, even with her playing the BR. Michigan State - .407 Nebraska - .200 Wisconsin - .191 Purdue - .355 Wisconsin - .162 Purdue - .229 Rettke against the top competition in the BIG. Michigan State - .412 Nebraska - .250 Minnesota - .457 Michigan State - .227 Nebraska - .500 Minnesota - .647 Penn State - .378 Purdue - .364
