I think its best that they cut off the crossovers. Some of the indoor girls on the beach team should not be on the beach team. They are not even close to making the flights. Some are there just to hang out and stuff. They are also taking up spots/space/and practice time from players who are full time beach players. Some fans like to think being on the beach team will help with their indoor game...however, it is not Jeff Hall's job nor it is purpose of having a beach team is to improve the game of the indoor players. If the indoor players think some of the beach training will help them, then they can implement them and use those training methods on their own time. I don't disagree with some of what you are saying including having so many players on the roster that are not in the top flights. I also do not think it is Hall's job to improve the indoor players skills, especially now that the two teams are separate. I don't think Hall cares about that now that he isn't part of the indoor coaching staff. I think this is more of public perception than reality and has little to do with whether players should crossover. There are players like Maglio, several players from UCLA including Sponcil, and players like Plummer (and many more), who have aspirations to play both beach and indoor. The schools that permit crossovers tend to recruit those players. Tori Van Winden said in an interview, one reason she went to Cal Poly was because she wanted to play both Indoor and Beach. Sponcil said something very similar on her choice to transfer to UCLA. The Beach coaching staff (for Hawaii, UCLA, Poly etc.), I'm sure care about winning and whether or not these players can contribute to their program. The player determines if they want to put in the time and commitment to both sports. There may be some players who "want to hang out", but the ones I know about were there to improve their skills, because they loved Beach and wanted to make the top flights (or believed they would crack the line up). They were not there to just hang out because it is a lot of hard work and commitment to play both.

Two players comes to mind when I mentioned that the beach haven't really helped. Casey Castillo and Clare Marie Anderson. Neither one was close to cracking the lineup for PT and neither one actually improved their skill level despite being on the beach team.
Of course, there are some players that are special and can play both but those UH don't get many of them. Maglio fell into UH lap and UH got lucky.
Look....I am definitely not saying if some player can help the beach and the indoor team, then they should be allowed.... HOWEVER, if you allow one crossover, you have to allow others( including those who have no business being there). You have to draw the line somewhere. Either you allow anyone who want to go play beach or no allow no one. Its easier to say "NO ONE".
I would not be surprised if this type of banning of crossover was initiated by some of the coaches. Our basketball coach Laura Beeman allowed couple of girls on basketball scholies to play volleyball in her first few seasons here but realized that volleyball took away practice time from those girls and have costed her the use of those players until volleyball season was over. I would not be surprised if Robyn feels the same way. Indoor players are on indoors scholie and their focus and attention should be 100% on being the best indoor player they can be.

Well, Hawaii could make like Nebraska where the entire beach team is made up of indoor players only. Sort of like year round training. See where it got them this past year No, No - bad idea. Let's not do that.

What are you on about? It's actually a good thing that indoor players are on the beach team. It helps them to improve their overall volleyball skills. As long as it is not costing the beach program in any way, I say Coach Hall should take as many "indoor" players as he wants. With regards to the UH Wahine Basketball team, you have no idea what you're talking about. If you are talking about Adolpho and Huff, they were both Dave's recruits/players that asked and were allowed (by Beeman) to play on Laura's team and because of NCAA rules, they were counted as basketball scholies....

I hope Coach Robyn can snag Iolani's Elena Oglivie and Shali Niu of Kahuku..FINGERS CROSSED! Niu is a senior and headed to George Mason. She's a good player, but would be a "project" player for Hawaii. She's not a part of prepvolleyball's senior ace class or in the "next 150." She has a lot of upside. A really strong player with good volleyball IQ. Working with the college strength trainers would help her a lot because she is very athletic. But from Hawaii's standpoint, she wouldn't come in and challenge for a starting spot right away.

Sometimes the Prep Rankings are based off the exposure a player gets, which usually comes from club - not high school. Haven't been in the volleyball scene for a few years now, but what club did Niu play for?
She can absolutely hit and IS a Division I player, but her vertical is pretty average. Lots of upside tho, and if she could put five inches on her vertical and develop in her overall strength, she would definitely be someone to watch out for in her conference.

She reminds me a little of Aneli, not that great of a vertical but a monster of an arm. So much upside to this girl.

Her snap on the ball is amazing. She has excellent technique! I agree! Hawai'i could've used her. She also has above average passing.
