Was watching the UH-UCLA match and longed for Norene Iosia to play so creatively like Joe Worsley. And, of course, for Granato, Castillo, and co. to play like Stijn Van Tilburg and Rado Parapunov. Every time I watch the men's game, I get depressed with the lack of firepower on the UH women's team.

For someone who came in as a highly-touted recruit, Iosia just isn't as impressive to watch as previous Wahine setters like Kanoe Kamana’o. Or even Margaret Vakasausau. Or even Dani Mafua in her last three years. Maybe it's because she's saddled with second-class hitters. Or maybe she just isn't that great. TBH, Ma'afala has been more impressive.

Iosia did seem to under perform this past season as a Sophomore. Now that there is a true 2nd setter in Maafala, it hopefully will push Iosia to improve her game for her Junior season.

I agree with the second-class hitters. That’s an honest opinion. I think it's both - Iosia hasn't been flashy enough nor does she have that top notch outside hitter to terminate. However, Kamana'o did not have flashy hitters in 2004, but her creativity as the setter and her defense was superb!

Anybody knows if UH have any new faces on the team right now? I'm just wondering if there was any midyear transfer that was not announced and stuff. We do have a few holes to fill. Only Trinity Casteneda was signed for next year. We lost Kalei, Kendra and Maglio as scholie players and only used one scholie on Trinity. Relying on transfers later in the year is risky cause what if nobody wants to come? I hope the coaches are out there trying to find some foreign kids. Most of the hotshots from the USA are committed so our best hope is to go overseas and find some female version of Stijn Van Tilburg or Rado Parapunov.

We lost kahakai, kendra, kalei, maglio and shaney lipscomb (unless she returns), so we have four open scholorships to give out. I think maafala gets one of them, and potentially ross as well. So that leaves us with 2.

Like you said, she isn’t playing with a cast that can deliver a kill if she gives them a perfect set.

Give Iosia 2003 hitters, or even 2009-2011 and she is an all american IMO. She does alot of things that go unnoticed but shes a Fantastic setter

Live near South Point (Hawai'i Co.) - Not a UH fan, per se', yet know enough about vb/the Manoa program to feel that Robin Will Do an excellent job: once HER recruits come!

So that leaves us with 2. If 1 goes to Castaneda who gets the other scholie? Is Arden Misraje joining the Wahine in the Fall. Speculation was that she was going to nurse her injury during the indoor season, then join the beach team in the spring, then the indoor team in 2018, is that still in the works?

I was pleasantly surprised with the progress many of the players made throughout the year. Burns being one of them. Even Castillo seemed to have improved her attack approach which led to better swings towards the end of the season. Again, have to give her credit because she has not trained as an OH for an entire year yet as the start of 2018 she trained at MB at times. I think that having her own recruits and not having to move players around and let them learn their position will be key to seeing them truly develop.

Like everyone, I was skeptical about the hire, but i think robyn will bE An amazing coach. Burns, castillo, maafala, all progressed tremedously under her and angelica. They know the game so well and have played at the highest levels.
The one thing i think robyn needs ro work on is in game adjustments and when to call time outs but overall I firmly believe the wahine are in fantastic hands
