I think Arden is not scholarship worthy yet. I believe she was supposed to walk on into the indoor program but her injury would not allow her to play indoor so maybe her joining the beach team is a way to get into school, slowly work her way back into shape and then join the indoor team. Robyn's intense style of practice might have frightened her a little and she was not ready to go thru that so maybe joining the sand is a good idea.
She was a recruit of the former staff so there is still a question of whether she wants to play for Robyn. She probably have no problem playing for Jeff Hall since Hall probably offered her the walk on opportunity while Hall was the associate HC of the Wahine indoor team.

For someone who came in as a highly-touted recruit, Iosia just isn't as impressive to watch as previous Wahine setters like Kanoe Kamana’o. Or even Margaret Vakasausau. Or even Dani Mafua in her last three years. Maybe it's because she's saddled with second-class hitters. Or maybe she just isn't that great. TBH, Ma'afala has been more impressive. That’s your opinion. Iosia is a fantastic setter. Volleyball is a team sport, and it doesn’t matter if you’re the greatest setter on the planet, everybody has to do their part. Like you said, she isn’t playing with a cast that can deliver a kill if she gives them a perfect set. That is your opinion. I don't see where the "fantastic" is. That's my opinion. Ma'afala connected better with Maglio, who is the only All-American on the team. And Ma'afala is a walk-on. I just hope Iosia lives up to the hype in her last two years. Like someone mentioned earlier, Kamana’o had a comparable crop of hitters to last year's in 2004 and she was fantastic. She was fun to watch and she wasn't flashy, either. She just got the job done.

WRONG! Kamana'o had Victorias Prince and Susie Boogard. Tara Hittle was also phenomenal as a freshman right side. They were all very consistent compared to the 2017 squad.

I'll give you Hittle, but the point remains that Kamana’o was able to do more with what she had. Remember her last two years when her attackers were falling left and right due to injuries? She still made it work. And she looked impressive doing it.

Is it unusual to not be hearing recruiting and or transfer news at this time of the year??

Not in my experience. Spring semester has started. Players who were going to transfer over break have done so. Other players may participate in spring practice and then decide. There is usually a lull between now and spring break.

It is possible that someone could have transferred over but the school/program won’t announce it. I see that in football all the time. You will see names pop up on the spring/summer roster that were not there in the fall. This is also “off season” for the indoor team so no need to make any kind of announcement yet.
Not expecting any big time hitter or stuff but hope we can land a solid libero since Kahakai have graduated and Ross possibly being a hitter rather than a libero. Counting on Gong or Okino is not the answer.

I'm not really looking forward to 2018 -- probably the first time I felt that way in all the years I've been a volleyball fan. The lack of good terminators at the pins has me worried.

I’m not worry as you are Wolfgang. I have faith that the players will buy in to Robyn’s system and will do OK. Last year was a transition year in a lot of ways. Not only because they learn a new system but also learning a different way of practicing and communicating(the tunnel huddle).
Everyone will be fully engaged this year since there is no crossover to beach and the coaches have settled down and can focus 100% in coaching the team instead of worrying about hiring DVO, finding place to live, worrying about moving the family, etc....
I have faith that everyone will step up their game and Sophia Howling will take over the other MB and blossom. I’m just a glass half full kind of guy.

Patience, Wolfie. Let's see what Robyn can do with what she's got. There were several teams that got at least to the Sweet Sixteen without a terminator and they played some pretty exciting volleyball.

Coming here 7-8 yrs. ago and beginning to listen to Na Wahine games on ESPN 1420, I am amazed at the loyalty-passion of UH's fan-base (you guys!). That being said (and being a fan/ alum of a different team in a different league), here's how I see the upcoming couple/few years "shake out". 1) Being in the BW conference is a double-edged sword. It means being able, realistically, to contend for the conf. title nearly every year. It ALSO MEANS having a sh*tty RPI-Pablo every year, also, unless RAMS/ the UH AD can begin scheduling better competition OOC. 2) This isn't the 1970's/80's anymore; the competition within NCAA Div.I Women's VB is SO Much More Fierce now than then. That being said, UH Can start recruiting with a much younger, more vital coach (Robin); who w/her assistants. might perhaps turn the recruiting fortunes around. 3) Anything can happen! Go UH

Counting on Gong or Okino is not the answer. Are Gong and Okino that bad? I mean, aside from Ka'aihue, Longo and Kahakai, all the other UH liberos were walk-ons who inherited the starting job. Watanabe, Lee, Maeda and Mendoza also redshirted their first year at UH just like Gong and Okino.

I'm not sure if she was that good of a passer in HS so I will have to wait and see. She could surprise and turn into a decent libero but I think that will be down the line and not next year. My concern with Gong is her inexperience. Okino was a serving specialist. She was never given much of a chance to play much backrow....even in blowouts. I am getting the feeling that Okino will be like Katianna Ponce, who spent her entire career as a serving specialist and not a back row passer. Is there any decent looking walk ons from the local club teams that could be a potential libero? I don't following the club scene so I don't know.
