Did Atherton have an opportunity to attack on two? She can be very effective as an attacker which should help diversify UNC's offense and help hold the block.

If I remember correctly she only attacked on two about three times - maybe more? I could be way off though. I know one went for a kill and the other two I remember was out of necessity on a tight pass at the net.

IMO no way UNC does worse this year. They should make the NCAA tournament

Down 2-0 to Wisconsin. 16 attack errors to Wisconsin's 2.
Also noticed Wine was taken away from OH after the first set? Did she get hurt? Or did he want Bell in there on the pin? Pretty much setting left side exclusively. Going to be a problem if we can't get them help.

My guess is Joe will experiment with the OH and MB this weekend as he probably knows that winning isn't realistic this early in the season against these quality Big Ten teams.
Interesting Clark came in at MB when Bell moved to OH... thought Tontai would be the next MB up but she hasn't played yet.

I wonder if Clark has a great connection with Atherton? We didn't get to see in the scrimmage since they weren't on the same team. During hitting lines in warmups, Clark was impressive. But that's just hitting lines... maybe they connect well? She's definitely outplaying Esterly in this match.

I think MB is a position of strength, relatively speaking, and OH is a position that lacks depth... so there could be a lot of mix & max early on this season.

So... looks like the same issues the team had last year are still present in the first game. New faces, but same struggles.

Twenty-two errors; five of those were blocks. 17 unforced hitting errors is rough... Cox is going to be solid offensively but she has to have help and we can't be too reliant on her. It makes the offense way too predictable. She took 34 attempts and Bell and Laufenburg combined for 34 attempts. It was good to see that we got some blocks going in the third set but if we can't dig anything up we have to have a better block. Also, if Casey isn't going to help improve the serve receive or get you some digs, I'd rather see Bell stay back there to provide a pipe attack when able.
Going to be a long season but it's early and we faced a really tough opponent. Interested to see what the lineup will look like against Minnesota.

Destiny was fantastic but she is going to have to have help. Raleigh a few good swings but Madison was too error prone. I have no idea what was going on with Skylar. Some terrible no judgment swings. Frustrating that Esterly, Bell, and Clark were limited offensively because of poor passing and unable to set middle or right effectively. If I were joe, Skylar would be 3 rotation and Destiny pushed back in serve receive. Overpasses killed us. It was good to see the block come alive. After today, I think Bell should be on the RS or the OH position, depending on if Skylar or Madison struggles most. I think Raleigh and Katharine can handle middle and putting Bell outside gives more options and passing. This was a much tougher match then CCU, who the Heels looked great against. Wisconsin and Minnesota are both national contenders so this should be the toughest weekend this season. This weekend is really when the coaches are making adjustments and the team showed some good things but the unforced errors are what must change. Hopefully even if it’s not a win, UNC plays better tomorrow and grows.

This is year two and Esterley still can't terminate an overpass.

We are giving up too many points when we only have two hitters in the front row. I'd like to see Greer move into center back and let Bell play six-rotations on the right side. It'll allow for her to attack back row as well. We also need Cox to be the OH in the front row when Atherton is in the front row.

North Carolina just showed where they are headed....had a chance to push it to 5 and if they could have closed the second a totally different game. So much positive. Serving game was strong, defense solid, blocking game alive, Cox is a beast, Wine trying to come alive, and Bell moving to the RS. Never been happy with that kind of loss before.
