This is awesome. Bucky’s Tuition Promise was announced today. Forever Forward! Wow. good news! We just started something like this on a state level in New York - the Excelsior Scholarship now covers tuition for all full time SUNY and CUNY students from households with incomes less than $125k. Applications have increased substantially as a result. I have also noticed a lot of colleges moving toward a transparent costs model, rather than the Price is Right Mystery Curtain approach they have used previously. I'm hoping it's the start of a trend, though I fear how states specifically plan to pay for it. The devil is often in the details. Interesting to consider what this means for scholarships. I imagine most vball players do not come from households in the lower half of income distribution, so it probably doesn't apply to them, but it might in other sports. What does a scholarship mean to a player who already has their tuition and fees covered?

What does a scholarship mean to a player who already has their tuition and fees covered? For a head count sport, an athletic scholarship means that room and board and books are covered as well. The new program doesn’t cover those things. I don’t see this impacting VB much, but possibly FB and BB in-state walk-ons - more in-state kids might be able to play for their home state school even absent a scholarship.

Haleigh Nelson. Just love her. I'd love to see her working back in Madison someday, but she's bigger than that (no pun intended).

So Hilley is a good setter, as far as I'm concerned, and she will get better as she gets accustomed to the level of play in the B1G. But B team having a winning record in practice must mean Dixon has been doing at least OK at setter, right? That makes me wonder, what is the chance of seeing a 6-2 this year with Hilley hitting front row? Having 3-4 good options every rotations might be a good thing, no? Has any successful team ever taken a flexible approach, switching between 5-1 and 6-2 as the situation demanded? I can't remember any.

Dixon does fine, I’m sure, but you have to remember the B team had Haggerty, Loberg, and Hart. Sometimes an okay setter can get more done with strong pins than a strong setter with okay pins.

So while I think we might play with a 6-2 in the spring for funsies, I don’t think we see one in the fall.

The question is whether having an extra hitter at the net for three rotations offsets replacing a Dixon for Hilley at setter, especially if that setter has Loberg, Haggerty, Rettke, Hart or Loberg to set, in addition to Hilley.
That said, I think you're right. The 6-2 looked really jumbled and confused when they tried to run it last Spring. It will be interesting to see what happens this year, but I get the feeling Sheffield prefers a single personality at the center of the offense.

But B team having a winning record in practice must mean Dixon has been doing at least OK at setter, right? The B team had much better attackers, not a better setter. That's the difference. Haggerty, Hart, and Loberg were better than everyone on the other side of the net, save Rettke (and she only played half the time). EDIT: just saw rainbow's response.

For now. Alvarez said he was open to doing so at the right time. I could think of some football and hockey greats who should receive that honor. Track and field / CC as well...although they don't really wear numbers, per se. Lauren will happen with time, particularly when she makes an appearance on the National Team in the Olympics.

Didn't say she was a better setter. I said they did well with her setting, which begs the question of a 6-2. Of course, they might do even better with Hilley setting, and having Hilley hit for three rotations may not be that much of a plus.
