I'm old enough to remember when a trip to Northern California meant a guaranteed win against Cal and a season defining nail-biter at Stanford!

3) Simply set Julye more and hope for the best; for at least a few matches, she has been our best hitter. I have doubts about this one, however. If Julye starts out well, maybe yes. But last night, she never got going. The flip side of this is that Julye, at 5'11", is getting 0.75 blocks/set, compared to 0.96 blocks/set for DeHoog last season. In 2017, UW averaged 2.98 blocks/set, but is only managing 2.22 blocks/set for 2018, with a differential of 0.76 blocks/set. Having Crenshaw in serve receive for six rotations would do much to shore up the passing, and moving Drechsel (at 6'4"?) to OPP could help shore up the right-side blocking.

Washington hits the mid-way mark of conference play right smack dab in the middle of the pack. UW and Arizona are tied for the 6/7 spot in the PAC.
While most of us weren't expecting a stellar year, this season is still a little frustrating, IMO.
There's some real talent on the team for the future - Powell, especially. But the play is just wildly inconsistent. They really were, for stretches of play, really outplaying both USC and UCLA. But they also had stretches with too many poor passes and out-of-system plays.
The offense is predictable and opponents have keyed on that. The blocking is diminished from past years.
It seems there's little hope of hosting a regional at this point...and, shockingly, perhaps not even being able to host the first two rounds.
It's a fun team to watch....a lot of potential...but frustrating.

It's the passing, passing, passing. Get a good pass to the net and Powell has all her options; don't and she has no good ones. I'd be in favor of playing Crenshaw for six rotations, at L2, or even at OPP, except, as alwayslearning remarked in the match thread: "Shannon may not have been 100% physically, as she was being worked on (shoulder issues) after the third set."
If Crenshaw couldn't play six rotations, due to shoulder issues(?), that left Cook with only Hoffman able to come in and play frontrow and pass, if he was to change things up.

this is about how many losses I think we'd have come towards the end of October.

Six games left for UW: two down south with the LA schools; at home against Cal and Stanford; at home against Oregon; and at Pullman for the rivalry finale.
Although the Huskies had a good weekend, I only see one remaining match where the Huskies will be clear favorites (Cal). It will be tough to beat an athletic Oregon team at home (and we can probably forget about beating Stanford at home); all other matches are on the road against good teams. So a final conference record of 8-12 is certainly a possibility (The Huskies are 7-7 currently). This weekend has given me renewed hope, however, and so I'm hoping that UW can knock off at least one of the LA schools and can knock off at least one of Oregon or WSU. That would make for a conference record of 10-10, which is pretty close to what most people probably thought (or at least I thought) the Huskies would do at the start of the conference season.
In terms of overall record, we're probably looking at something between 16-14 and 18-12. The former is a little too close for comfort in terms of getting into the tournament, although the Huskies' strength of schedule mitigates in their favor. The latter would work, but forget about a seed.
Focusing on the future, what is really important is continued improvement, especially on serve receive, overall passing, and defense. If Bajema and Hoffman can improve their serve receive, and Hoffman can become a solid offensive option at L2, then the Huskies will be much better positioned next year.
