I also really loathe the slower tempo sets to the middle that he insists on keeping from the JMac era. Like, why? He's lucky he's sexy. This doesn’t make any sense. UW has produced All Americans running slow(er) sets to the middle, separately, set selection to the middle is NOT a contributing factor to UW’s failure, generally.

he was riding JMs coattails for the first few years. Trump could have taken this group to a similar record. the fact that he progressively did worse with them is the tell tale. JM's record in his last three years at UW: 86-13. How do you think Keegan's record would have been with Krista on his team for four years? I too was very disappointed with the 2017 season, and have been a vocal critic since week 1, but the 2016 season wasn’t riding Jmac’s coattails. I’m giving Cook until 2020 to see that he’s able to do both in results and that recruiting class. Until then, it makes little sense to argue back and forth with Les, really.

Just trying to put things in perspective. While I would have liked the team to go farther in the tournament, Illinois was only one match. As low as that was, we also had several highs this year, especially considering the injuries.

Losing to Illinois is the beginning of the end for Cook. Experimenting with the lineup only a few weeks left before the tourney is a sign of a "not have it together" coach. And then to not motivate the team to beat a so-so Illinois team is something JM would have resigned over and taken up professional surfing for. I give him 2-3 years before the UW administraction cans him. You heard it here first! I think he was in the right lineup, assuming that his goal was to go to the FF. It was a calculated risk that just didn't work out. The mistake was not starting Bajema from day one.

Not just Bajema but waiting to move jomrs at the end of season and jerking scambray aruond from lib to oh. Seemed like he was out of touch with reality.

Like I said, he should have started Bajema from day one, which would have meant leaving Scambray at Libero. (I understand his thinking, however, that Julye, for instance, was the better backrow defender; I just think it was wrong.) Tanner's injury, forcing a 6-2, precluded moving Jones to MB, until Tanner was able to block frontrow.

I don’t care if they set it, but I just don’t want to ever hear the phrase “slow developing quick” or “slick” again. If they want to call it a “one and a half,” like the rest of the world, fine by me. And “they” refers to Sundy/Karch, not the UW coaches/team.

2017 Washington had the pieces to be better than what they were. Cook did a pretty mediocre job in 2017.

Winning is a drug. People get addicted to it easily, even by proximity (fans). And it's got a wicked tolerance curve, because one hit and they want more and more and more. And then if someone takes their drug away from them, they get really crazy. Angry, demanding ... vicious even.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and try to enjoy the New Year for what it brings you instead of being all upset about what it doesn't.

I don't recall the lineups of those teams nor that of the opposition, but I do know that this team had too many quality players to not make it to the sweet 16. How can a team not advance with Bajema, Dehoog, Jones, Schwan, Bailey, Scambray and etc. Unfathomable to lose like they did. In '09, JMac had Becky Perry and senior Tama Miyashiro, 2 of the top players for UW since I've been a fan. UW was #6 seed. CSU unseeded. In '07, JMac had a team that included Morrison, Swarbrick and Deesing. UW was the #6 seed. BYU was unseeded. In neither of those years, did UW struggle with the injury issues that plagued the 2017 team. Calling for the firing of JMac after those two losses would have been a remarkable level of stupid. Just like now. les likes to provoke, which is fine. But les doesn't really apply much critical thinking to his posts. Tomclen has provided a number of good examples to refute les's basic premise. There are plenty more, including losing to Nebraska in Seattle with Vansant. It's true that the Huskies were missing an injured Katy Beals in that match, but the fact remains that they played very poorly as a team. The next night BYU beat Nebraska and then proceeded to make the finals. In the last six years of watching Husky volleyball as a season ticket holder, this match, for me, represented the greatest discrepancy between potential and reality. Of course, JMac was coaching. I agree with ay -- a long term evaluation of Cook only makes sense after about 2020.
