Anyone have any updates on this Spring season for Purdue? I haven't seen much talk about them. They split with Kentucky (2-2) and I believe they beat Fort Wayne over the weekend? Not sure what they line-up was other than Bush at setter, Peters at libero, Williams as MB. Newton played OH but I can't tell if she played all around or was subbed out. Still trying to figure out if Atkinson played OPP, as I've seen her practicing serve receive. It looks like Reisinger got playing time and Van Zelst too (who could've played OH2 as she's played OH last summer for the team).

Spent Saturday at the Boiler Box. Slim attendance. Purdue played Fort Wayne in the first match. All matches played 3 games to 25. Fort Wayne won first game -22, Purdue next two -19, -18. Fort Wayne played Ball State in the second match. Fort Wayne won all three games, with final game being -18. Purdue played Ball State in the third match. Purdue won all three -19, -13, -13.
Fort Wayne had the most successful day of any of the teams. Ball State looked horrid. Purdue looked meh.
Now about that lineup. No Mohler or Otec dressed for the day. Not sure but assuming injury of some sort. Bush looked way above average in the setting department but got abused on the block. Atkinson at OPP and looked sharp. For a big, she has got a flat, nasty serve. Easily the best attacker and server on the team. Little Cuttino and Williams holding down the middle, not dominating the middle, just holding down the middle. Neither are B1G middle material. Peters with the libero jersey and passed very well as did Reisinger and Van Zelst. Passing well above average on the day. Newton playing OH2. Looked a lot more confident, arm velocity is up and blocking above average. So who played OH1? Graduating senior Danielle Cuttino. WHAT??? Without Cuttino dropping bombs, Purdue loses to Fort Wayne.

Finally updated the first post of the thread. Sorry for being such a slacker. New additions include Joy Chen and Emma Terwilliger to the roster; the removal of Lexi Dorn. Also added a "Could Be" line-up for the 2018 season. Of course, nothing is set in stone. Plenty of time for movement and improvement for the Boilermakers. The only positions I feel confident will stick are Bush at setter, Atkinson at OPP, and Newton at OH. Thank you rvdadvb for the post about our newest commit, middle blocker Raven Colvin! And thank you hoosierdraft for the rundown on the spring matches last weekend at Holloway Gym. Glad D. Cuttino was available to play OH; hoping Otec recovers nicely from injury. Let's keep the updates coming Boilers!

I am guessing that you are saying Notre Dame, Louisville, and Alabama look decent in the non-conference. Other than them, you don’t think that any of the other teams have the potential to do well? I am asking because I would think that the Shondell brothers have learned from years past that scheduling a “weak” non-conference schedule can only hurt them come NCAA tournament time.

I don't even think Alabama is a tourney-caliber team.
They are definitely are going to have to go undefeated in non-con - and looking at the schedule its definitely a possibility. However, they always seem to lose a headscratcher so who knows.

However, they always seem to lose a headscratcher so who knows. I think that maybe they scheduled like this to give their team more confidence going into the Big Ten season. They will be a very young team. Only 5 upperclassmen. Hopefully their scheduling will not backfire on them.

Yeah but I think that they scheudled waaaaay too light. I understand it might be difficult to find competition if you're Purdue - seeing how they always seem to finish in the middle of the pack in the Big Ten, other coaches trying to work the RPI don't see them as an RPI booster.
Last Years W/L Record and RPI Wofford - 22-11, 150 RPI Bowling 17-12, 130 RPI Tulsa - 15-17, 141 RPI Oakland - 17-12, 118 RPI Notre Dame - 22-10, 43 RPI Xavier - 13-19, 144 RPI Lipscomb - 16-13, 85 RPI Louisville - 24-7, 26 RPI Southern Miss - 20-12, 122 RPI Alabama - 18-14, 65 RPI South Alabama - 17-10, 133 RPI

This isn't bad RPI scheduling - the SOS rating versus difficulty is VERY favorable, assuming these teams weren't having one off good years(I don't know enough about the midmajors here to know if they'll repeat, and I think Lipscomb is coming off a down year and will be better again).
Probably a good balance of wins while maintaining SOS.
