Dang, definitely a "statement" to do this on National Championship day. Is Haley in KC? Yes the timing was poor but maybe Lynn didn’t care or even think of his announcement. The replacement maybe should strongly care about who his boss will be.

From a timing standpoint this is a huge PR disaster and a giant F-U to the AVCA Convention and the Finals. Based on the quotes from Haley in the VBMag article, it's clear there were problems. But, even if you can't figure out a way to fix whatever problems there are between a coach and people in the AD department, (which a good AD should be able to resolve), then you at least have the decency to NOT announce this hours before the championship match. That is just inexcusable. If this is the type of management and leadership USC is getting from their so called Athletic Director, then I feel very sorry for every person who works in or is associated with that department. This is a shameful way to handle the departure of any employee, much less an extremely successful head coach. Mick mentioned problems, but he naturally didn't mention the problems he caused. You think other coaches don't cause problems? Rose has never caused a problem of any kind at PSU? Cook at Nebraska? You still don't take a giant dump on a coach with a bush-league press release hours before the national title game while the coach isn't even in town. This isn't the move of a leader. It's a small-minded move of someone who stumbled into a position of power based on a certain level of sports celebrity from the 1970's.

If it is an age issue, USC is sunk. They will need to pay him off. Let's not forget how vocal some transfers were about how he disregarded their injuries and mental health. USC could have gotten rid of him years ago. I really hope he just walks away for the sake of the program and his legacy.

The question isn't whether this is a great job, but whether there's a really good viable candidate. USC likes to hire within the family, but can't think of any coaches with SC ties who are up to it (Weishoff and who else?). Have a hard time believing that they will land one of the established head coaches--McCutcheon, Elliott, Cook, and would be shocked if they consider Karch. Karch has been on USC's radar as a potential replacement for a few years now. Whether anything comes of it is a different story. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if USC strikes out with a couple of big names and end up promoting Jason Kennedy. Not a chance. Jason is one of the reasons the SWA pulled the plug.

So, if USC had beaten Florida last Saturday, his contract still wasn't going to be renewed? Ah, USC.

Thanks for the years of hard work and dedication, Mick! At 74, this is probably a good time to retire. I'm not sure if anyone is surprised. Misty would be a great hire, but I don't think she wants it. She's LBC through and through and I can only see her leaving City College for Long Beach State. Tyler Hildebrand, perhaps....? I think Tyler is a great young coach, but handing him the USC job after just one year as AC in the women's game? It'd be a risky hire. That said, I do think he'll eventually be a fantastic head coach. I believe John Cook made Tyler promise to give Nebraska three years. Maybe even a part of the contract. The USC job is a big jump for a first time women’s assistant coach.

Boy, that runs counter to everything I"ve heard from USC folks. OTOH, I haven't really been in the loop for most of this year.

The USC job is a big jump for a first time women’s assistant coach. That's the commitment John asks for but it's not a contractual obligation. He asked Tamas for three years too but the Illinois opportunity was too good to pass up and Cook told Chris to visit and take it if he liked what he saw. Cook would tell Tyler the same thing if USC actually offered him the job, I just find it unlikely that Tyler is who they're targeting.

I wonder if Collier (sand head coach) will have any input in the new coaching position? She certainly has a number of "in's"

There are probably 100,000+ people working in athletic departments in America who would be more qualified than Lynn Swann to be an AD.
But at many schools, USC almost certainly included, it's most important that you have someone who will please the wealthy jock-sniffing alumni who want to have chardonnay and brie with a sports celebrity, not a real administrator and manager.

Recruiting would be out of this world good, and transfers would line up to become a Trojan.

Only a complete twit would make a comment like that. You don't like SC, no problem, take your flabby a** to another topic. What a jerk!
