guest: I think professionals in the field of volleyball have expressed "Oh, Volleytalk" with raised eyes, at least that is what I have perceived when I've mentioned something with reference to Volleytalk. Maybe I misinterpreted it. Lots of good stuff here and you CERTAINLY get the inside scoop and early info over any other source, though Facebook usually gets things quickly these days. Party girl? Well, I guess one could ask that, but there should be so much content above that which gets missed that "party girl" seems a bit rough. Anyway, Travis' podcast is UNREAL, SO nice to have beach only and wish the NetLive would catch on and break their podcast down (I kinna stopped listening as when I hear "Indoor", I go to my books on CD".....

"Those guys should win every match they play, but they haven't got a brain between them." Can you imagine a modern player saying that publicly about another?

Appreciate all the feedback, both the kinds words and criticisms (both are supremely helpful, and yes, we're still shoring up sound quality and volume for some of our softer spoken guests). Prior to every show, we'll chat off the record about what direction we'd like the show to take, and certain subjects the guests would rather not get to. I'm sure you've noticed a few common denominators. And when they say they'd rather not dig into those topics, that's also athlete speak for "I'm not actually going to say anything of note." We've been told, on a few occasions, that if we bring certain topics or questions up, they'll just give the standard PC non-answer and that'll be that. So while your questions, Guest2, are not bad questions at all, though if at times a bit cutting and blunt, there is little sense in asking them if we already know the answer will be a non-answer, which doesn't help anybody. As you've alluded to, the days of OB and Hovland and the boys speaking their minds and ripping players openly and honestly are over, at least for the most part. Sure, we could not warn them about topics and try to jump them a bit, and we might get something notable, but that's not really the point. There's an avenue for that, and I'm not sure this is it. We look at this, and I think the players will agree, as a fun outlet for them to just talk volley, and sometimes we'll dig into the controversial stuff, but this is a podcast for the players, by a player (and one making a rough attempt at it). I'd like to get their thoughts on record, and at some point I'll try to do just that, but not on the podcast. Hope this helps, and thanks again for listening.

I understand as a current culture, we are obsessed with drama....I am curious about the Sean/Phil breakup as well as the Kerri/April breakup as well. However, at the end of the day, is it really any of our business? Kerri says it was a lot of off court stuff, which sounds personal...As fans, I don’t think we should feel like we should be entitled to explanations from either Kerri or April or any player for that matter. They have both moved on and seem better for it.
The few players that I have spoken with know this board exists, but don’t come to it. I think as Travis pointed out, a lot of podcast are like that, where the two parties will speak about what will be off limits...I agree with why ask them something their not going to answer.
I also agree with VBJ...For example: Would anyone of us ever speak to Kerri to her face like she is spoken about on this board at times? I doubt it...Same with Donald Sun?
I am really just a fan of this sport and root for Everyone as well...Some I root for more than others, but I’m sure we all have our favorites. I just want this sport to grow & succeed. Would I love to see it become the a huge professional sport in the USA like Kerri is envisioning? Sure I would. Is it possible? Sure it’s possible..Will it? Time will tell...Brazil can do it...Why can’t we?
I really Like this board & respect Everyone’s opinions...It’s a great place to come and chat about the past, present & future state of the sport we love!
Happy New Year to Everyone! I am hoping for & envisioning a great 2018 for 🇺🇸 🏖 🏐...Borh Domestically & Internationally!

Would you speak to anyone in the world the way you discuss them when they aren't there? Of course not, its a nonsensical straw man. If your mother heard the way you talk about her with your siblings she would be angry. If your husband heard the way you complain to your friends he would be furious. A real problem for the sport though is who on the tour would you even want to talk to, or about, based on their public presentation. (Other than Ryan, who does a great job of getting his personality out there) A lot of the players have cool personal stories to tell, but none of them ever seems to come out. For some of the players that's who they are, but the rest are clearly trying to avoid saying anything controversial and I don't understand that. To put it another way, which current player, if they played a sport you weren't necessarily interested in, would draw you into that sport? People watch sports for: 1) Story 2) Personality and/or 3) Rivalry. Which of those do you think we have now in BVB? What storyline in BVB compares to Kevin Durant's heel turn, Aaron Rodgers coming back in week 15, or whether Bonds should get into the HOF? Why isn't Phil v Jake promoted the way Cowboys/Skins is? The only compelling story or rivalry in BVB right now is Kerri v April and both have spent the last year trying to play it down. If you are a casual or occasional fan of BVB, which would you rather tune in to see: Its the Long Beach WSOBV, Kerri is interviewed in the lead up to the event, she is asked why she broke up with April: 1) "It was time for us to move on, I still have great respect for April and I admire here so much, but we wanted to go in different directions." 2) "We broke up because April couldn't look past her own selfish interests. She is more concerned with being friends with her college buddies than winning. The reason we broke up is the same reason I have three gold medals and she hasn't won anything that matters." Which quote draws more fans? Which is closer to how the players actually feel?

"Actually, it made for one of the best stories out on tour, because how many sisters would give up possibly much more successful careers in order to stay together?"
Doesn't this mean they chose NOT to give it their all so they could play with their BFF instead, thus reaffirming the point Guest2 made?
Yeah, political correctness and the mutual respect and admiration society is dull as f*ck, but although it makes things much more entertaining for fans there really is no benefit for any athlete to share anything beyond the typical respectful bs.
So I will have to settle for the next best thing, reading Guest2 commentary on Volleytalk. Logging on here I can at least catch some he said, she said rumors, even if most of it is baloney. As for making the forum look bad? Lol, c'mon man, now the fans have to be politically correct too? Give me a break.

One of the best parts of beach volleyball right now is that the athletes are far more focused on being great than being seen. We've got enough reality TV. I'd much rather that Travis and Tri focus on bringing value to the conversation than promoting or fabricating drama.

How many players show emotion to get the fans riled up? Where's the trash talk to get players out of their game? I like what Trevor started doing last year on social media.
