SG Elite wins the 1-game playoff with Drive nation for the second bid from Dallas! Tornados-SG Elite in the Finals. Possible 3-way tie in Omaha too, but Sting looks to be in good position now at 2-0 and 4-1 in sets. SGE sweeps Tornados in the gold. Both qualify. Willowbrook over Drive Nation for 3rd but I'm pretty sure only 2 bids went out.

However the chart shows 14-17's, no 18's. In 14-17's, 24 teams would give you 3 bids in the qualifier which might make sense since Texas actually had a 3rd place match. Anybody know for certain?

In Chicago, SPVB 18E beats Uno 3-0 to remain the only undefeated team. They looked better today than they did the first weekend I thought. Yeah I agree, they were a lot more physically imposing from what I saw (not a ton). Uno looked very vulnerable all weekend I thought. A very small/crafty fusion 17 red gave them fits and should have beat them and then they got handled by elite. In general everyone looks pretty beatable, and anything below court 4 lacks a lot of physicality as a team. Some players here and there, but no teams filled with bangers like the last few years I felt there were teams like that struggling to get to silver bracket the past couple years. Now it seems like you just need a hitter or two to be successful in gold pools.

What do they have, 5 senior aces, 3 of them top 20? Yep, but did it the hard way with three match losses over the weekend...but winning two one-set playoffs. Austin Jrs helped too by beating Drive nation in the gold pool as SG just had to wait and hope. Seems like a lot of good teams battled this weekend. All four teams that ended up with bids (Dallas & Omaha) this weekend had at least two losses. That doesn't happen often.

In 14-17's, 24 teams would give you 3 bids in the qualifier which might make sense since Texas actually had a 3rd place match. Anybody know for certain? I was wondering the same thing and looked it up. There are 16 qualifiers for 18's and each has it's own max number of bids from 1 to 3 for a total of 34. I'm guessing the other 2 are designated as at large to reach 36? I'm not sure how they decide the max number of bids, but the first 4 qualifiers were capped at 2 bids each, next weeks Ohio only has 1 bid, and there are 5 qualifiesrs that are capped at 3 bids each (Golden State, SoCal, Crossroads, Lone Star and Mideast). The other age groups have only 12 qualifiers and they each have the potential for up to 3 bids based on number of teams entered, for a total of 36. Correct. Not sure of their overall record for the season. It seems like the top eight teams (at least) in this tournament will be eventual bid winners.

MN Select returns Zumach, Bair and Persson from last year's team and has added a bunch of Crossfire kids. Based on commitments, they look formidable. But ball control could be a big issue: Ashburn (S) -- Wisconsin Bair (M) -- Michigan Persson (OH) -- Michigan Zumach (OH/RS) -- Creighton Clark (OH) -- Penn State Harrington (M) Holthaus (OH/RS) -- Iowa State Paumen (M) -- Missouri Schmidt (OH) -- Northern Iowa Weimerskirch (L) -- Illinois State

... Saw OTVA Tampa at a Daytona Power League in December. That team has 13 on the roster see link: events.sportwrench.com/#/events/2457c4188/divisions/1350/teams/23489/rosterYou'll note there's no Marley on that OT 18 T. Aaron roster. She's now at Ocala Power. OT looked good on Day 1 but lost in the final on Day 2 to Top Select Blake which returned Wash Huskies commit Shannon Crenshaw among others from last year's 18s. Thanks, I was not sure if Phegley and Hampton were still on the roster, they should do well. Looks like they combines the south and the tamp teams and added a couple of other players. Does that mean OTVA is only having the one 18's team, or at least only one open team?

Two qualifiers this weekend - Ohio Valley (Columbus) and Music City (Nashville) along with JVA Milwaukee Jamboree, Central Zone Invite (Indianapolis) and Texas Tour Stop #2 At Ohio Valley Legacy 18E will be the favorite with Vision, Minonette m.81 and Metro vying for second place (only one bid here) Music City features HPSTL who took 2nd to KC Power at KC MLK to secure their bid. Top pool seeds include Rage 18-1, OT 18 Aaron, A5 18 Bob, ESVBC Ninjas, Top Select 18E Blake and NORCO 18 Black. This qualifier has 10 of prepvb's top 65 teams, 5 of which are top 20. Follow at events.sportwrench.com/#/events/293164300/divisions/1548/pools (All others are on AES) JVA Milwaukee has Milwaukee Sting 18 Gold (First at Northern Lights, 3rd in Chicago) who should have an easy weekend outside of playing Mil Sting 18-2. This is on Flovolleyball for a price; however Sting 18 Gold is on court 17 the first day, Flo is covering courts 18-20 (DOH!) Central Zone invite 18 open will be a good one with Circle City 18 purple (Won Chicago for their bid) and TI Elite (2nd at Chicago). Other teams are Union 18-1, Lex United 18 Adidas (Hord, Vicini, Cathey) and Kiva 18 Red. And tour of Texas stop #2 (Dallas) will continue this weekend. AJV 18 Miolten, APAC 18 Yosh, Drive Nation 18 Red and Houston Skyline 18 Royal all went 7-0. Prequalified teams that went 5-0 were SA Magic 18 Elite and TX Tornados 18 Mizuno.

The Columbus qualifier is looking like a heck of a tournament. Seems that every team except for CEVA (whoever that is) is extremely competitive. Lots of close matches in the first two rounds of day 1, including Michigan Elite upsetting AVC Cleveland.

Didnt last long with that 15-25, 11-25 match one.

Yeah, I had the 2017 results up and was thoroughly confused why it did not jive with reality in 2018. But I kept typing anyway (duh)
