1st day of super open power league at GLC was pretty ugly. You could definitely tell it was most of the teams first matches of the season. We will see if tomorrow is any better I was hoping you were still around, have not noticed much since last club season from you. Agreed, about the only thing I saw today was strong hitting for most teams. No single setter stood out, passing was very weak in most cases. Some strong serving overall but a lot of work to do at GLPL in the super open division to be sure. Landfair was a beast though, it looks like 18 Elite will be heavily dependent on her this year. Illini Elite could be in trouble this year unless their setters can somehow find a way to connect with Hannah Clayton, nearly every set was either too slow or too low, she had to hit the ball at her shoulder or ear in most cases. Neither Fusion 18 team looked particularly strong, Sting black and white actually looked better than gold even though they both went 0-2. I was impressed with Natalia Pehar's hitting for 1st Alliance 18 Silver but she only plays front row, the same team also had a great serve from their setter Molly Hackett.

Let's make this their top priority please! In the setters defense she does jump about 20 feet up or so and is very quick, in some cases she was approaching before the setter even had the ball leading to a mistiming.

Uno is the #1 seed overall?
From those of you attending, are they really deserving of that? That's not a club you traditionally see at the top of GLPL.

If anyone knows, does Hawaii riley wagoner play 18s and if so, how is she playing She plays for my old HS, and is a beast. Hasn't missed a Final Four yet. She is playing basketball right now. She plays club VB in the spring. Her 16s team won a NC last summer, so she will be playing in the 17s this year I would assume. She is not but a Junior in HS.

Well at the first day of play at MLK in DFW there were minimal surprises as TAV Black and the other top seeds came thru to the gold bracket tomorrow.
Drive Nation, the new team every one is curious about, was seeded second in pool 5 to Skyline Royal. They split their two sets with Skyline who maintained their seed due an (8?) pt differential. DN now has a tougher route and one more match (5total) to win. Tav will likely be waiting unless they get surprised along the way which could happen. A lot of teams are playing well until they have brief periods of forgetting ....

At MLK in DFW TAV Black won gold without dropping a set. But they did not look crisp, just relied on experience and blocking. Both setters are new and the lead off setter in their 6-2 needs practice, especially distributing the ball.
Drive Nation could not get past Skyline or the Madfrogs and finished about 9th. They will be better later. Excel went three, then went 3 again with the frogs (26-24 in third), so when they got to TAV in the finals, they looked out of gas.
DFW has 5 teams that can compete in qualifiers.

Don't get to watch much college ball during HS season so I don't comment too much and read more than anything else. i did not get a chance to see landfair play at all yesterday or today, I don't think there was ever any question she was going to be the next big gun for elite since the beginning of last year. I didn't see uno play at all so cannot comment on them other than I thought their 17s team was pretty good last year. My memory is not good though so maybe it wasn't them. Still a lot of ugly volleyball today. Like you said, some good hitters and serving but everything else is a mess all around. Ive considered this a down year compared to most years for IL volleyball in general. Now with a few early grads missing here and there it really seems to be showing.

Munciana 18's roster, they are 5-0 after the first weekend at Mideast Power League. Strangely enough none of the players from last years 17-1 team made the 18-1 roster: Bostic, Bonnie (Yale - 2019) Gilliland, Lauren Hernandez, Mallory ( Miss St) Hunt, Molly Ivy, Mykel (Ball State - 2019) Miller, Megan (Nebraska) Murr, Kylie (Ohio State) Parker, Jonni (PSU) Shaffmaster, Melani (Minnesota) Wells, Alyiah (Alabama) Bella Rosenthall (Auburn) This team should do very well sportsrecruits.com/club/Munciana/18osamurai
