I suspect the USAV doesn't consider the Patriot division a true championship. It is the only division that a team can just "enter" while teams must qualify for the other three.
When USAV first created the Patriot division I always immediately associated it with the fact that there were teams that did not want to register/play AAU at the end of the year and were content with USAV because that is what they know and do. As we have pointed out on this board many times before obviously teams have a down year, if you happen to have one of those down years and still want to play at nationals it may be just like comparing your preference of Pepsi over Coke. That likely is accurate. However I would add that a lot of the teams in the Patriot division are from clubs that rarely have teams that qualify for nationals. So it is probably just like the AAU where you can enter your teams and say that you are playing in the "national championship". I suspect another reason that USAV created the division was to get some of the entry fee money from teams that formerly were playing in the AAU nationals.

In my area, the only reason teams play Patriot at USAV is because they are trying to qualify, think they have a good chance of doing so, and want to book travel before our regions bid tournament. Then they fail to qualify and attend Patriot. Waiting until late spring to book travel to nationals really ups the cost.

PrepVolleyball preseason rankings are out. They’re placing Legacy at #1. I didn't see that being #1 this year...looking forward to a great season! I think some are under-ranked and others are higher than I'd though. Cheers to the last year of paying for club volleyball!!!

Another reason that teams play in the Patriot division is to get their kids in front of college coaches. For parents of kids that want to play in college (and pay substantial amounts for this "national" club exposure), being in the building is expected.

Does anyone think they have a solid understanding of how USAV divisions compare to AAU? I think USAV Open is usually a bit stronger than AAU, but not drastically in some cases. 18 Open I think is significantly closer than 17 Open is. But once you go down the divisions I'm not sure how they compare.. Is Patriot Division comparable to Classic at AAUs? I've never seen anyone take Patriot division seriously and classic is similar I think. Patriot is probably closer to Club. At least for the gold bracket. The bottom half is closer to Classic. In general, and in my opinion: USAV Open AAU Open USAV National AAU Premier USAV American USAV Patriot AAU Club AAU Classic That being said, AAU treats participants in those bottom divisions better. USAV stuck a lot of Patriot division matches in the basement of the Minneapolis Convention Center last year. There has been some pretty blatant attempts at sandbagging which has made the top part of Premier better than National in many divisions. I would say National is really closer to Club in my opinion.

USAV USA division was left off the list and overall I think stronger than National Division's bottom half due to the fact you must qualify at a National Qualifier or it may trickle down in a tough region to a similarly strong team. The Gold division of National is pretty strong (most just missed Open), next eight in silver is pretty good too, 16+ more drop-off, the bottom quartile usually come from fairly weak regions. However, coaches know they may find a "gem" from one of those weaker regions.
My thoughts: USAV Open (no matches "off") AAU Open (Top 8-10 are similar to most USAV Open teams--some better) USAV National (I would say top 10-16 would be stronger than "most" Premier teams--maybe more, but after that Premier probably stronger overall.) USAV USA (Better top to bottom than USAV National--but again, gold (top 4-8) is not as strong.) AAU Premier USAV American (Almost always a very strong region wins this--NT/LS/CA) Teams play Open in national qualifiers and settle for a bid in region. I think the last three divisions ultimately may depend on the location of USAV and if people want to go to Orlando or to the selected site. College coaches are well represented at both venues so I think either can provide visibility.

Does anyone know what College Sydnee Johnson is going to?
She's a phenomenal setter out of Centerville OH (Elks) that plays club for Mintonette 18s.

She, along with 100,000 other high school kids aren't listed as committed on Prep Volleyball. That's all I've got.
