We are about to get another GM2 team in the PAC. Do you see that as a plus, minus, or even?

I don't no much about Crouch. Maybe he'll be good, but I'm still surprised. USC is an active legacy program (as opposed to an "expired" legacy program like Pacific) in a hot zone for recruiting, and a wealthy athletic department to boot. I was expecting a big name. What do USC people think? For those of you who are familiar with Crouch, is this a solid hire?

Good for Brent but holy crap what kind of decision is this from USC? Imagine the fan base if they did this in football. Incompetent. It simply seems like USC athletic department is de-emphasizing VB - they simply don't care that much. The health of any non-revenue sport at any school, no matter it's legacy, is always highly dependent on institutional support. You'd think that a program like USC, located in the "cradle" of VB would always strongly support VB. Apparently not. That's not to say that it has to be disaster; maybe he'll end up doing okay. But, still, the hire seems SO off base.

As with Helton, this hire says that SC wants a culture change, not that it expects national championships.

An inexpensive culture change, at that.

I haven't read the entire article on anything in regards to the "retirement" of Haley. Yet, I can't help but shake my head as it seems (by people's post) that he was forced out. I don't understand how this could be. Just 2 years ago, he took a team that was pre-season ranked #21 (or so) that ended up being the #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Sure they didn't win the National Title, but they reached the Elite 8 and yielded the best player that year in Bricio. Fast Forward to 2017 and his team is 6 points away from a Final Four appearance. What did I miss?

What did I miss? USC started that season unranked. And also, USC was ONE point away from the Final Four. USC had a match poiint AT the #2 seed and NCAA runner up Florida's home court. The only way Mick kept his job was if he won the NCAA Championship, I think. Even a FF appearance might not have been good enough. It's so crazy. Who knew that point might have decided Mick's career ?

They hired a coach that is coming off a 15-15 season, including a 6-12 record in the WCC. How does that not seem off base? It takes great coaching to take a terrible program and get them to .500. It takes totally different coaching to take a great program and get to final fours. There is certainly a lot of overlap, but he's just completely unproved at the level that USC should be competing at. I know nothing about him as a person or coach. I just see the hard numbers of the resume. It's a weird choice.

This one simple line from the USC website: Sorry, USC. But you've got to do a little better than that. I don't care how messy the separation with Haley may have been or even if Haley behaved in a horrible manner...you just don't put out a release like this without throwing a few props to Haley. Take the high road, fercrisakes. A lot of thought goes into these types of releases. Swan could have said something about Haley's succcessful career. Crouch could have talked about how honored he is to replace a legend. Instead that one puny sentence. 22 paragraphs and you can't throw Mick a bone? Says a lot about the class of the USC Athletic Department....and it ain't high. Not sure how most schools handle this; but, an official release about a new hire is about the new hire, not the accomplishments of the previous coach. The official release which discussed Haley's departure is the one which should have touted Haley's accomplishments. When Pete Carroll left USC, did the official release of the new hire (Lane Kiffin or Steve Sarkisian) include all the accomplishments of Coach Carroll? The recent press releases from Hawaii (replacing Shoji) and Long Beach State (Gimmillaro) were all highly complimentary of the former coaches while introducing the new hires.
