Saw the trailer for the first time today.
Honestly, I was surprised there's a movie about Han Solo's younger years even though I shouldn't be. It will suck. You heard it here first.

But Opie directed it.

They killed him off and now want to focus on his younger days? I don't know, is Disney milking the Star Wars franchise dry?

Actually, far from "milking it dry", I think the Disney movies I have seen have been better than most of the ones Lucas made.

Actually, far from "milking it dry", I think the Disney movies I have seen have been better than most of the ones Lucas made. Sure, but that's a pretty low bar to jump over. Lucas's prequels had clunky dialogue, jar jar binks and bad acting. It wouldn't be that hard to surpass the prequels in quality...but that does not automatically make Disney's Star Wars a home run either. With the exception of Rogue One, I just don't find the current crop of Star War movies that inspiring or spectacular. Decent and watchable? Certainly. But it just does not move me the way the original trilogy did.

But it just does not move me the way the original trilogy did. Yeah, but the point is that Rogue One, the only "non-main-sequence" movie, was actually quite good. And with Ron Howard at the helm, I have hopes that this "non-main-sequence" movie might be pretty good too. Howard took over part-way through, but they say he reshot a significant chunk of the movie.

Rumors of an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie in the works, too. Years in between prequels and the original trilogy?
But hard to tell what's rumor and what's a hoax. I have read that both McGregor and Neeson (not sure how that would work) want to be in it.

Actually, far from "milking it dry", I think the Disney movies I have seen have been better than most of the ones Lucas made. Lucas was a visionary, but he wasn't a very good director or writer. The best Lucasfilm movies were the ones he didn't direct. I always wondered why he never got Spielberg to direct a Star Wars movie. He is named as an assistant director though on Revenge of the Sith.

I suppose if you wanted to make movies separate from the Star Wars franchise but still a Star Wars movie, you could make the following:
1. Lando Calrissian -- Lando the younger years; cooperated with the Empire, if not outright collaborator, while he was with the Cloud City; The Empire Strikes Back seems to suggest Calrissian had a shady past, certainly one that involved Han Solo.
2. Princess Leia -- Leia the younger years; more and more movies nowadays of heroines, see, e.g., Wonder Woman. Leia as a Senator's adopted daughter who grows up to be a Senator while covertly associated with the Rebel Alliance seems interesting enough to warrant a deeper look.
3. Senator Palpatine -- the younger years of this charismatic Senator who would become the future Galactic Emperor
4. Darth Maul -- Maul the younger years; everyone seems to have forgotten about poor Darth Maul
5. Boba Fett -- Boba the younger years before he became a bounty hunter

I never liked that vague term "visionary." Does one get labelled a "visionary" if one achieves enormous success in the billions of dollars like George Lucas? Or is the term used to describe a person because there's really no other way to describe that person? I have a vision of a fictional world where the Golden Rule occurs automatically and supernaturally. If you rape someone, sometime in the very near future you will get raped. If you cheat someone of their fortune, sometime in the near future you will be cheated out of your fortune. And also, everyone walks around in bathrobes. Shouldn't I be called a visionary?

I thought we already saw Boba the younger years. Some of them anyhow. They were creepy.
I want to see more about Jar Jar. Maybe a Jar Jar and Jaba road movie?
