First, beach volleyball is doing great globally. The issue is only in the US with the AVP who prior to the Olympics getting BVB didn't really have any competition. The FIVB seems to be doing great.
The FIVB and the AVP are never going to work together. One is a global not-for-profit sports governing body. The other is a paid promotion owned by one guy. This is just not going to work.
USA Volleyball should focus on creating a domestic feeder tour that works with the FIVB and creates more opportunities for domestic competition. We should focus on getting our big annual events like Manhattan and Hermosa to be part of the FIVB tour as regular stops. Drop the AVP entirely.

This "FIVB doing great" interests me...they just started a union and they cancel events like mad...what am I missing (Oh, and the money has gone down significantly). Seems to me that AVP is on the rise, FIVB in decline, IMHO...

I count something like 34 stops for the FIVB this year versus 8 for the AVP? Even if the FIVB cancels some fringe tournaments they are trying to get going it isn't even close.
Prize money at Fort Lauderdale for the FIVB will be $300K each team. Manhattan on the AVP last year was $225K.
And the funny thing is the AVP is absolutely cherry picking the best and cheapest sites. Put the FIVB into some of those tournaments and you could have much better purses.
With the FIVB being the Olympic qualifying tour, the AVP is dead. And it has been dead for 15 years. USA BVB needs to refocus.

What are these other countries like Russia doing to get such a rich and immense upbringing with all these young players. It is absolutely ridiculous how many really good young players they have.

They are spending money. I have pretty good knowledge of this program and the Russian Volleyball Federation has a budget to develop talent. Players get a salary, they have top notch full time coaching etc.
