WTF is Micah doing. I know the passes aren't good but you just need to throw it up for Kofi. He can usually get it down.

Passing is breaking down for UCLA.

Good match. LBSU is good. Tuaniga's sets are really good and really helps his players beat the block. Let's see how UCLA regroups for the rematch next week at home.

Serving broke down too as seems to be their usual. Gymiah airmails one on match point, and LBSU takes it 3-1.
DeFalco was really impressive, as were Ensing and Tuiniga. LBSU looks to be the team to beat at this point.

Kofi couldn't do it all, in the end.
LBSU definitely won the serving/passing and had more blocks and more digs.
This was the first entire match that I've watched LBSU play (watched snippets of them vs. Stanford earlier this year) and I was thoroughly impressed.

Credit to LB for playing lights out and earning their win.
That said, UCLA definitely made that win easier for them. Lots of unforced errors with the htting and serving. Everyone was having issues putting the ball down, but Missry stunk it up for far too long in my opinion. Should have gone with Arnitz way earlier.. I think someone in the thread already mentioned how Missry had 3 back to back to back errors followed by a missed serve.
I’ve been thinking it for a while, but I think tonight kinda solidified my thoughts about the fact that UCLA is missing an elite librero. Peed isn’t a huge liability per se, but his serve receive is okay and slowly getting better.. where he does definitely lack ability is in his digging/defense game.. He just doesn’t dig up any hard driven balls like some guys do. Obviously he’s only a freshman and it will come with time (hopefully), but sooner rather than later would be great. Lol
Looking forward to the rematch If UCLA can serve in and get Missry going on Wednesday, it will be a closer match.
P.S. phone keeps autocorrecting Missry to misery, which I guess isn’t totally inaccurate after this match.

Seemed like the wheels fell off for UCLA after the first set. Pin hitters making tons of unforced errors and Micah started trying to do too much on his own. Not to mention their serving was awful. Kofi is an absolute monster though.
On the LBSU side all they had was Ensing and DeFalco but that was enough. DeFalco played great and showed a lot more leadership than I’ve seen from him in the past. x2 on what was previously said about the red/d ball from Tuaniga to Ensing- after seeing it live it is ridiculously fast. Tuaniga’s location is great but good lord some of his sets make me throw up in my mouth. Not sure how he didn’t get called on any doubles yet Micah got called on a back 1 that didn’t even come out that bad.

match thoughts
what a crowd - I thought 3000 might happen, but 4600 and standing a couple deep all the way around - electric - maybe 500 UCLA fans? but they were real quiet after the first set. Fantastic atmosphere having a packed Pyramid.
#16 MB (Gyimah (sic) ) was just a monster. He almost single-handed willed them back the 4th set with his serving & kills. UCLA had the advantage in teh middle. LB will need to get Anderson going IMO to win the re-match. Didn't get a lot of sets to him, probably because Gyimah was on teh other side.
Micah Ma'a had this unworldly twisting hit on 2 after running down and errant pass in I believe the first set, crazy good play. Tuaniga didn't get a single dump I believe but his setting was fantastic.
If not for TJ hitting an overpass just a tad too early in the first set and getting called for going over, this might have been a sweep - that was a huge turnaround the first set. Even then LB didn't get rattled.
UCLA serving was just horrific, especially 3rd set that kept them from getting any sort of momentum, got to believe they won't be that bad in the rematch.
I thought UCLA would have the libero advantage, especially after Molina got aced 5-6 times last week. However he played ok. LB just pounded their serve at UCLA's libero a lot, and that helped keep UCLA late in the match from getting the ball to Micah in a good position.
I don't know if LB can serve much better than they did sets 2-4, they were just teeing off. Tuaniga's serving run in the 4th set may have saved the match for LB
Huus (LB's 2nd OH) struggled a bit 1st set, but he had some key kills that 3rd set and got a bit of a rhythm. LB's OHs were dominant and then some.
TJ had an all world solo block part of turning the tide 2nd set.
Best serving I've seen LB do in quite awhile - that's been their bugaboo the last couple of years.

only thing LB needs to improve VB matches are like parties - don't make the cardinal sin of running out of alcohol
